Some folks have replaced their OEM headlights with the Sylvania SilverStars for much improved performance. I went to Pep Boys today to look at them and got a pleasant surprise. I wanted the SilverStar Ultras, which are normally $49.99 for a 2-pack. Pep Boys currently has a coupon good for $10.00 per pack (available on their web site), and a mail-in rebate for another $20.00. I picked up a pack of high beams and low beams, so I just got $100 worth of headlights for a total of $40 for the Dip. Coupon expires Oct. 20, and the rebate offer expires 11/03.
They are easy to replace, you just reach in beside the genset and twist out the OEM bulbs and twist in the new ones. On my Dip, the low beams were size 9006, and the high beams, 9005.
I have no connection to Pep Boys, and I hope this post doesn't offend anyone. I just thought this was such a great deal that others might want to know.

I saw that ad too. I just changed out the lights on my Endeavor with them about 6 months ago. Made a huge difference.

Anyone know if there are Sylvania Silverstars replacements for the OEM headlights on a 2004 HR Ambassador? The present low beams are pitiful and my wife and I were just talking about finding replacements for them when I saw this post.
IF I'm not mistaken the newer motorhomes have different lights as most I see have the clear lens where as ours have the old style.

There are also a limited number of sealed beam replacements available. Here is a link to the various types they have. You'd have to look at your head lights to see if anything matches.

Robin_M,
Thanks for the link. Our motorhome doesn't have halogen headlights but maybe some of the others in the link you provided will work. Something has to be better then whats on there. I will check out whats on the bus and try and cross reference it.
Thanks again for the help.

What a 'bright' idea! Thanks for the info, Robin.
And glad you already did yours, Mark. I was just about to ask if it works on an '06.

When I replaced the high and low beam with SilverStar Ultras I reaimed the lights with the procedure on Daniel Stern's website. You can also modify the 9005 (high beam bulb) tabs and and use it in the low beam socket. It provides about 40% more light. I saw such an improvement I did not do the lamp modification. I was a concerned it would blind oncoming traffic. I did modify the lighting circuit however and installed Bosch relays which now powers the headlights directly from the battery, fused of course. The headlight and bright light switch control the relays. Subjectively, it increased the light output but the biggest bang for the buck was installing the SilverStars and reaiming the headlights. They were way off.
Daniel Stern's website has a lot of useful lighting information. Worth a look.

I would have assumed that there already were relays in the headlamp circuits on the coach. I've never seen them, but I've never gone looking for them either. I'm very surprised to find out otherwise. I wonder when they stopped using relays in automotive headlamp circuits?
Thanks for the tip to check the aim. I'll have to look into that.

If you buy the HIGH BEAM bulbs for the Monacos, they can be placed in the low beam socket with a minor modification. The difference is that the HIGH BEAM bulbs have a slightly higher wattage and they don't have the blacked out tip. Monaco's low beam assemblies already have the block at the tip of the bulb housing and doesn't need to be duplicated.
The difference between the High and Low beam bulb is how they are "clocked" in the holder. Five minutes and a dremel and you can remove the part that changes the "clocking".

Robin,
One would think there would be relays in the light circuit but, according to the Monaco wiring diagram, there is not. the light switch and high beam switch power the headlights.
