Just blew the turbo on my 2005 dynasty ,cummins 400isl. Extended warranty company denied claim saying the nut on turbo is a fastener and they do not cover. Mechanic says new turbos do not have that nut, probably because of this problem I had....$3500 fix, not sure how you would check to make sure yours is tight but I had no prior warning. Just thick white smoke and loss of all turbo pressure on the gauge....They had to take it apart before they found the nut was missing. Mechanic thinks that the nut is part of turbo, not a fastener so I plan to appeal the decision. Just thought I would pass this along..Stay safe everyone....Spider

Ya I think the warrenty company is just testing you. to see if you will say ok and hang your head.
Tell them when you buy a turbocharger it comes with that bolt/nut installed and torqued.

This is the nut on the end of the turbine wheel that is inside the turbo housing? If so you need to fight that because there is no way you would know it was loose. That is part of the turbo unit and could have come loose because of vibration if a failing turbo or because the turbo siezed up and stopped and spun it off. Your mechanic needs to help you on this. Don't say the turbo failed because the nut came loose say the turbo failed then the nut came loose.

I would take that bet.... I don't have the company name in front of me but I believe it is National or something like that. The other two times I have used them they paid out around $6500. $6000 for a bearing failure on my onan 10,000 diesel generator and $500 for a bad solenoid on a slide out. My out of pocket was $100 deductible and some freight and shop charges. So I guess they are now looking to deny any further claims. I go later today to pick up the rig and will post more info tomorrow. Thanks for your opinions, will start working on my appeal after I consult the mechanics more today.
