Time for a new windshield...

I'm over in Washington state, plan to be down in Portland next week, and I need a new windshield.

My insurance (Canadian) uses Safelite Solutions/Belron down in the US and they will let me pick my supplier, but they also want to do it using their in-house resources. Either way my deductible is $375 US, so I'm just looking for a good job and a quality piece of glass.

I'm inclined to drive down to Coburg to get it done at RV Glass Solutions, but it is a day out of my way and fuel isn't free. Anyone use Safelite/Belron to replace a big RV windshield?

Paul ,
There does seem to be a skill needed to properly install a big RV windshield .
I have no idea how one would determine a quality windshield , mine was
made in Turkey for my 03 Windsor , supposedly Turkey was the only supplier .
It seems fine to me .

From things I have read auto glass is installed with an adhesive that gets very
stiff or hard and ours needs to be installed with an adhesive that much more
rubbery and stays flexible .
When I had mine replaced in Ft Worth I mentioned this to them and they sort
of poo poo the idea saying they knew , but couldn't / wouldn't show me what
adhesive they had used when I picked it up .
It lasted a few months and I was back to see them , of course they accepted
no blame but my insurance installed another windshield .
This one has been in a couple of yrs now
Did they use a different adhesive this time ? They still couldn't show me what
they used , "the garbage was already gone" .
I suspect they figured it out and finally used a more flexible adhesive.

I will admit I am more careful about entrances etc that are apt to twist
or torque the coach .
A wider turn is often much better , it will allow the front wheels to cross an
uneven area at the same time ( together ) , this makes for less twisting of
the coach .
Leveling in a bad spot can create twisting too .

I was in the RV Glass Solutions warehouse a few years ago and it had an astonishing number of shields. I asked where they were made and the lady told me Turkey.

I called them to ask why I should go to the extra trouble of driving down there and she mentioned that there were Chinese made products, and another from Guardian that was significantly thinner. They supplied the OEM glass and still do for many coaches.

I asked the person trying to book me it for an appointment at Safelite and was told they didn't know what glass was used. In Oregon they would call Coach Glass and Import Glass and go with the cheaper supplier. The lady also mentioned that they use Duncan in some parts of the country.

Import Glass sells Guardian, and Coach Glass seem to be their own importer but don't say where they source the product. Interestingly when I asked RV Glass Solutions for a quote, they sent me a quote addressed to Duncan, so it looks like Duncan source at least some glass from RV Glass Solutions.

All things considered, and Ray's experience noted, I think I'll go back to RV Glass. They re-sealed my windshield three years ago (always leaked from the top in heavy rain) and provided some side glass.

Just a note...
RV Glass Solutions in Coburg has several power pedestals and will allow you to "Freebie overnight" on their property while getting the windshields and other glass work done..

I had a new windshield put in at RV Glass last spring. After seeing what they do the extra miles travelled are worth it when you consider the chances of being either stopped roadside with a popped window or returning for warranty to an improperly installed windshield.

I'm in Vancouver WA. I drive to Coburg to get my fogged windows done. Very nice to deal with but not the cheapest.

I've had 2 windshields replaced by RV Glass Solutions - 1 in Coburg, and one in Phoenix. Both done correctly and happy with the installs. You will need to spend the night at their facility to give the adhesive time to cure

Trying to get a new passenger side windshield installed. State Farm uses Duncan Systems out of Elkart,IN. I am in Knoxville wherea local installer willdo the work. They got the new windshield and came out to our place to install it. Well...it was the wrong size so waiting now till they get the correct size one !! They need the temp.to be at 55 or warmer so the gasket stays pliable along with the adhesive. The coach stays in our new barn !

The Monaco I used to have (2004) had it’s windshield mounted in a rubber gasket. I don’t recall there being any glue to set up. Am I right or do I have this wrong? I believe the 2006 windshield was mounted the same way?

Paul, I'm also Canadian. Had my windshield replaced at RV Glass Solutions in Coburg last winter. I had to cover the bill, then submit it to my insurance co when I got home.
With a Monaco built coach, I wouldn't go anywhere else!
