Top Wiper Seal Not touch Slide out

HI Everyone, While changing my slide toppers and doing other PM I noticed that my front road side slide (Flush Floor 15'6") that the top wiper seal is not touching the top of the slide out. The top of the slide sags in the middle there is probably a 3/8" void there. The seal is more than likely the factory original and has been repaired a couple of times on the sides.
We purchased this 2007 Diplomat 40PDQ last October and are wrapping up all of the PMs now.
Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Greg

If the top surface of slide is sagging, that may indicate water has gotten to the wood and it is now rotting/soft. You need to check and fix this before it gets worse.

If it just the seal that is not flat or has curled, you can replace it with a new seal - maybe one a little longer. They have videos on how to choose and install a seal.

See Steele Rubber Seals. https://rv.steelerubber.com/

My 13' slide had a similar problem with the top horizontal wiper seal standing straight in some areas just touching the slide roof and barely bending to wipe in others when fully extended. If i brought the slide in 6" from its fully extended position the wiper seal had the correct bend and sealed. I did this since May for our trips till i did the repair last week. As the slide went out it was slightly raised then dropped a slight bit just before fully extended. Thinking this was designed that way which prevented the slide from touching and wearing the carpet. The opposing right slide functions the same. I bought THIS 3" x14' peal and stick seal from Steele Rubber Products. My original faulty seal was 2" so my 3" new seal gave me an extra inch which provided the proper bend to make a good seal. I stuck it to the top of the original seal and put pop vivets every 6". I was planning on using small screws till i I saw on a post not long ago on this subject where MSHappyCampers did this using pop rivets and a garage bottom seal from Lowes.

MSHappyCampers, If you can direct me /us to that post it would be much appreciated. I searched for it for 1/2hr and gave up.

Joe,
Thanks for your information and pictures in referenced post on 17 & 19. What size rivet did you use? (length & diameter)

Thanks, Mike

I used 3/16" diameter aluminum rivets, but don't remember if I used the 1/4" or 3/8" length, probably the 3/8". Be sure put put SS flat washers on each side of the rubber!

Thanks Joe,

Will put the washers on both sides of rubber. I was going to put screws every six inches, but I think that the rivets will work much better!

Thanks,

Mike
