Hi All, I need some help! I am preparing to take a Tow Vehicle a 4 door Jeep Wrangler with me for my next trip and I am preparing for the Tow bar etc. My 2001 Dynasty is in Storage right now and I cannot easily get to it, start and drive it to get the Travel Height.
I need to know the Height of the Hitch Receiver when the MH is in the Travel mode, air bags aired up. I would like to know the height from the center of the 2" opening to the ground. Or from the bottom of the square part of the receiver just please tell me which you measured from.
This will let me know if I need a Drop receiver and how much drop if any to get.
Thanks very much.
Robert

Robert, I needed a drop receiver to get my towbar level on my Wrangler and I paid a little extra and bought the Blue Ox adjustable unit. It was well worth the money because I have moved it from one MH to another and only had to adjust it and not have to buy another one.

Robert.....I don't know the measurement you need. Even if someone has the same coach, I'm guessing their could be up to an inch difference due to lenght and other factors.
If you need to make a correction and have time, both my BIL and I added another receiver to the stock one on our motor homes. I added one on top of mine and my BIL added one under his to get the height correct.
Adapters are fine and if you have to use one, you're stuck, but for 3" adjustments, life is much simpler adding another short receiver to the top or bottom of the stock one if you have room.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.
I still need the Height of the Receiver Hitch on my Dynasty. There must be someone who has a 2001 Dynasty that they have easy access to get the measurements.
I understand that it might be easier to get an extra bar welded to the existing receiver but here where I live it will be difficult and a drop extension will be an easy fix if needed. My Jeep is high and eyeball measurement appears to be correct. I will have 2" either way.
If possible this will help since I cannot get the Coach up to ride height at thi time.
thanks,
Robert

Robert,
My 02 with tag axle requires a 2" drop for my trailer to run level on torsional axles, I suspect that is what you will need as well. When buying a drop receiver I think it is always a good idea to buy a forged receiver as opposed to a welded tubular receiver. They are more expensive but have a superior load rating. I bought mine from a Tractor Supply, Inc, it's powder coated and does not rust. Hope that helps.

Thanks Brent, your suggestion about the forged receiver sounds great I have a Forged Ball mount bar it is night and day compared to a welded version.
I am not going to pull a Trailer though. I am buying a Ready Brute tow bar and they stress the need for the equal height of the Hitch receiver and the attachment to the car. My Dynasty as I recall sits high but since it is in storage the air bags have deflated and it is lower than ride height. Due to the location I cannot get to my Battery cutoff to turn it on and start the engine to air up the bags and raise the Coach. I am just hoping that someone with a similar Dynasty can just check and tell me the height of the receiver when at ride height (either the center of the receiver or the bottom just tell me where you checked). The specs call for +or- 2" from even so I have some leeway.
thanks
Robert

I have 2 of these. 1 permanently on the Jeep so I can move my trailer around (a 6 inch drop version because the Jeep is lifted on 35" tires) and a smaller one, like shown below, on the motorhome for attaching either the Jeep tow bar, or my flatbed trailer.
Self-Locking, Adjustable, Aluminum Ball Mount - 2 Chrome Balls - 4" Drop, 5" Rise - 10K
They are a little pricey, but you will hopefully find you never need to buy another one again, regardless of your tow vehicle or the towed trailer/vehicle.
Also having both 1 7/8" and 2" balls comes in incredibly handy at times. You can get them with other size balls too.
Ok, now i sound like an advert for the company... i'll shut up.

Hi Craig, I guess I am not describing what I am planning correctly. I am going to use a Tow Bar that mounts directly into the receiver mounted on my Dynasty. It is placed in the receiver and then connects to the vehicle in my case a Jeep. I have no need for a Ball Mount, were I towing a Trailer I would.
The Tow bar I am planning to use stresses the need for a connection to the receiver on the MH that insures the Tow Bar is the same height a the base plate on the jeep another words the bar must be Level. I cannot measure the height of my receiver on the MH so I am asking if someone with a similar Coach would measure the Height of their receiver with the MH at ride height.
I do thank you Craig for that link if I needed a ball mount that would be a handy one to have.

Robert,
It's possible that Monaco tech support would have that measurement as part of their engineering drawings. All the tow bar manufacturers recommend getting as close to level as possible when setting up your tow. I know Roadmaster's suggestion is no more than 2" high or low. It is better for the motor home end of the tow bar to be slightly high so the towed vehicle will not tend to lift under heavy braking.
As a previous poster suggested, even another '01 Dynasty might vary somewhat in receiver height from yours.

I am shocked with all the Monaco owners out there that read this forum that there is not somebody with a 2001 Dynasty that can't measure the hitch receiver height at the center of the receiver.
Come guys there has to be somebody that can do this .

Well - I will chime in on this, however due to several factors I cannot tell you with absolute certain the figures.
On my Dynasty (2001) Chancellor as I recall my hitch (the 2 inch receiver opening) was right at 20 inches.
When I mounted the base plate on my 2008 Malibu I recall measuring it as I was concerned there would be the correct distance so the car would not tend to under ride or over ride. I ended up with good measurements and my Blue Ox bar has a gentle downward slope from the receiver to the front assembly on the car.
On the suspension side - my duals are loaded to around 18,000 # and the tag is loaded to around 8500 # and everything seems to work well for me.
I had to keep my camera turned on all the time in order to monitor the Malibu as I was unable to feel the car while being towed. The "only" time I could feel it back there was the rare occasion when I would cross rough railroad tracks at slow speed.
Sorry for the unsure aspect for this information, age gets in the way of my memory, plus my coach presently sits outside next to my garage and I will not go fire her up just to build up the air and check the measurements I just gave ----- its just too cold here.
PS - I would bet that Monaco just may have those figures.
ALSO - on the Woodalls Forum there is one guy that may have it also and he goes by "Executive".
God Bless
Bill

FWIW my tow bar is quite a bit lower then the motor home's receiver. When I put an "adapter" so as to lower the tow bar the "adapter" drags on drive ways etc. My Mini is low down. Maybe when I have to STOP quickly the rear of my coach could go up and the Mini might want to go under the coach. So far I have made several PANIC stops and that has not happened. deSanford

I have a 2000 Dynasty, single axle. Monaco sent me the 2001 owners manual as the closest fit, as they were unable to find me a 2000. Perhaps we are mechanically close enough to work for you? Caveat: I have not had the ride height checked. If you are interested I will take the MH to a spot to measure the hitch height. Let me know. It might take a week or so as I am out of town frequenty.
