how do I know if the engine brake is setting of electric trailer brakes or is it at all?

P.S. this is our first DP so I am still leaning.
Thanks, Bob Prince
Bob,
It will all depend on how your coach is wired (you didn't mention make and year) and how they wired in your controller. I had my wife follow me in a car while on the phone with each other to see if my brake lights came on when I just let off the throttle and the engine brake came on. I didn't want my trailer brakes coming on every time the engine brake did so I ended up adding another pressure switch to the brake pedal manifold.
Sounds like you will need to find out if your brake lights come on when your engine brake does, then find where they got a hot, (switched) brake signal for the controller.
Mine doesn't feel any different than when I pull it with my pickup either. Other than the fact that I can hardly feel it behind my coach. Ten thousand pounds vs 38 thousand, coach wins.
Hope that helped a little, if you have any other questions please let me know.
Chris

Thanks for the response. We have an '09 Imperial.
We will check in couple of weeks when we move.

Should I assume that if the brake lights come on, the trailer brakes are active when engine brake engages?
I am not positive, but pretty sure the just plugged in to the prewired plug.

Yours being pre wired I'm not sure. I have an 04 so mine was not pre wired. Maybe make a new post asking that, someone will know.

Once adjusted you rarely have to change the gain/voltage it puts out.
This is interesting, wonder if it would work on my '02? Where did you mount the controller?
