Transfer switch not working

Fired up the generator today for its monthly exercise. Ran for over an hour on full load. Turned generator off. Now plugged back into shore power, we have no AC power to the coach. Progressive surge protector indicates that we have 122 volts on both lines. Xantrex says waiting on AC. Any suggestions?

Do you know what transfer switch you have?? There was a period of time that Monaco was installing a Iota transfer switch that had a high rate of failure and there was a recall on.

Iota ITS-50R Automatic Transfer Switch

Monaco stopped installing these in Sept 2001.

After that they installed a Lyght, which is a better switch.

Robot Check

From what I've reat the Iota switches would get hot and melt the contacts and sometimes cause fires. If you have one of these I would replace.

If you have a different brand you may try disconnecting the power, take the cover off and see if you can see any problems. Normally the generator takes priority, so when you shut the generator off it may have not switched back to shore. Make sure if you have Auto Generator Start it is disabled.

Well not for sure what happened, but power is on. We unplugged the power cord. Left unplugged for 30 minutes. Plugged it back in, nothing happened. Now after another 30 minutes, we have power.

Sounds like transfer switch relays stuck on 'gen' source

Which brand/model of transfer switch do you have?

Not for sure what the progressive bypass switch is or where we would find it.

It might be located above the refig.

Thank you so much for the link. Documents printed and added to the manual collection.

If you call the above link, their tech will talk you through the procedure for checking your unit out. They were very helpful with my problem I had a while back.

One of the things some folks do is start/stop the Generator with shore power connected.. Does not sound like you did that ("Plugged back in") but if you did...

There are two basic types of transfer switches. one has a SPDT break before make solenoid, the other has two SPST solenoids with interlocks.. If the first wack 'em with a rubber hammer (While not plugged in) in the 2nd case. Well I know how to override but I'm not comfortable telling how,, danger is present.
