Transmission won't allow engine to start

I went to start the engine 2 days ago and the engine wouldn't turn over and
there was no neutral light on. Went to the back and jumped a solenoid and started the engine. After a bit the trans indicator was flashing mode on service
and with that flashing it wouldn't go into gear but it would start. After a while
it quit flashing and the neutral indicator lit up and it would go into gear. After
when it cooled down the the mode on service was flashing and later when it
cooled down no lights were showing. This morning which was warmer the
mode on service was flashing and after a while the flashing stopped and the
neutral light came on and I could move it. I believe the must be a temperature
indicator that is probable haywire. Anyone have this trouble.

What's your battery voltage?

If it's low enough the computers could be having a problem. Start there and see what happens.

I’m guessing loose ground on wire wired directly to the battery. Mine has 6 white wires wired directly to the battery. When my ground wire was partially broken it did that. No neutral light. Heat would make contact better? Just a guess

Batteries are fine and the heat would have been minimal and only inside the trans.

Peter , the wire connector to the shifter panel at your left hand has caused some
strange problems for people before .
Usually just getting a hand in there and pushing things together corrects
the problem at least for awhile .

Yesterday morning it would start and go into gear. Have a momentary flash of mode on
service when I first turn on the key, I need to find out what that means

Where is the trans ground wire and where does the trans get the positive juice from.
Right now I am back to no neutral lights. I am taking all the ground wires apart and
cleaning them

The trans is back to no lights in the panel. Where is the trans grounded at and where does
the positive the gets juice to the trans. I found one poor ground at the house batteries,
# 10 wire, pulled the wire out of the end.

On my coach the transmission " computer" is located behind the panel beside the drivers side seat. I had a faulty ground here. They cut the ground wire and grounded it directly to the chassis. Said the ground went all the way from the front compartment to the battery ground but they would not attempt to trace it all the way thru the coach

Where is the computer, beside my driver seat is the VIM. I am going to try and find the
computer this afternoon. I removed the wires from the shifter panel and reinstalled them,
no help.

Peter , On my coach there is a trans module in the front run bay , this is
the elect bay below the driver and there is also one below the shift panel .
Not sure which is which though .

I have read that the trans and engine ECMs are powered by a wire for
each directly from the positive post of the chassis batteries .
Of course yours could be wired to pick up 12v somewhere else but either
way it needs a constant 12v feed for it's memory .

Have you done anything around your batteries recently ?
It has been reported cases of the ECM wires being accidentally left loose,
corroded or finding an in line fuse back there near the batteries .
One case I remember was the wire had a butt connector that had not
been crimped good causing a on and off similar to yours .
This would probably be covered by tape making it hard to find .
Good luck , keep us posted please .

I found the computer and traced the wires from the battery to the front electrical cabinet
and to the computer. There is a problem with the hot wire to the cabinet, it won't hold a
load. I will see if I can find the problem with the wire or run a new one. In checking the
grounds I found Monaco ran the chassis battery to the frame and from the frame to the
starter. The proper way is to run the ground to the starter and from the starter to the
frame.

You should have 4 red and orange hot fused, 10 amp, wires hooked to your chassis batteries.
These feed the transmission and engine ecus.
Flow these 4 wires about 18 inches to 2 feet abd and you should find a conector crimp.

The one to the transmission will be loose.

If you un hook all four and rehook one at a time.
You will hear the engine
ECU click.

So that one is OK.
I think a red and orange go to the engine.
One for starting and one for constant DC power while running.

John is probably right about the wires near the battery .
People with similar issues have reported finding the problem ( splices ) buried
in the harness wrapped with tape , makes finding it difficult .
This should be in the vicinity of the batteries .
There will also possibly be an inline fuse holder , your fuse is probably good
but the fuse holders themselves can develop poor connections .
