Evening,
Got back late last night from a trip to Washington DC for the Memorial day holiday.
We left out last Wed. and as I just mentioned returned last night.
We had great weather while there but it did rain on us about the last 150 miles on our return which was after dark so that was a little stressful. Also don't let anyone tell you that there aren't some good sized hills in the East. Whew that constant up and then back down in West Virginia and Maryland got old. Worse then out West by far. At least when your going up out West its usually for quite a while.
Spent about 700 dollars on fuel for the round trip and paid what I consider a outrageous fee for a campground(50 a night ), but the campground was very conveinent to the metrorail which we rode everyday while sighseeing so I guess it was about the best you could do for DC area.
Saw all the monuments and major attractions plus we got to see and hear President Bush and other dignataries at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on Memorial day as tehy paid their respects to our fallen soldiers. Thats probably something I'll never get to do in my lifetime again so it was very special.
I was amazed at the amount of security thats in place now all over the capitol and national mall area. Its a different world now after 9/11/2001 I guess.
It was fairly spontaneous and quick trip for that far but very enjoyable and worthwhile and once again reinforces why I love the rv travel style.
Whoops this is long winded so I hope the forum hasn't changed to a technical forum discussion only forum while I was gone.

Nothing changed while you were gone, Letsgoagain...but I am going to link this to the "You've Gotta Go here-or Do ya" forum so others can know about your experience!
Glad you made it home safely...and had such a great time.

Sounds like a nice trip. What campground did you stay in that was close to the Metro line?

I'm looking forward to getting up there. Did you stay at Cherry Hill Park? Sounds like you had a wonderful time.

Robin_M and historyljc,
The rv park I stayed at was Cherry Hill. It basically is at the intersection of I-495 and I-95. You exit at the College Park exit mile marker 25 and take a right at the next two stoplights and its about a mile from there.
The metrolink Greenbelt station which is the end of the line for the green line of the metrolink is at exit 24 off I-495. This exit is for parking for the metrolink only and it doesn't have access to any other roads. So as you can see the station is fairly close to Cherry Hill. I will post a review of Cherry Hill in the Campground review section that will give more specifics.

Correction, I posted the campground review in the, You gotta go here or do ya forum.
