Turns For Carefree Awning Fabric-Roll?

I needed to remove the fabric of my Carefree Eclipse awnings to re-caulk the roof-to-wall seams underneath. In the process of re-installing the fabric on one of the awnings, the locking pin holding the spring-roller from spinning let go and the spring unwound .

I remember seeing on here somewhere (or in my scattered paperwork) the rule-of-thumb of how many turns to pre-load the roller, but darned if I can find that info now . It was something like 15 turns, plus one more for each foot the slideout is extended.

Does anyone remember for sure?

Thanks!

Is it a slide topper or awning to clarify.

Both Dometic and Carefree customer service are good resources.

Slide-topper to clarify.

I've had just the opposite luck with Carefree customer service, which is why I asked here.

In any case, I found my reference info... 17 turns for that topper.

Rusty sounds close, Captjake1(John) found reference to so many wraps based on feet or inches away from coach wall. I maybe confused. I ordered parts for a couple of my slide toppers, I have to call them this morning again and order one more part we found damaged during the repair yesterday I'll ask!

Rusty talked with tech support, SOK3s between 15-17 turns depends on spring age, it could be more if you have a weak spring, then suggests replacement.

Ahhh, many thanks. And that confirms what I'd written-down several years ago (finally found my reference papers - I try to keep a log of what I'd done and when).

Got the attached Carefree chart from another thread while trying to determine how tight our toppers should be.
