Replace...Jack antennas are fairly inexpensive and I can see one being a hassle to repair and not much cost saving.

Yet...I recently put a king Jack in place of the standard crank up variety. Not real impressed with it. Others with the standard winguard designed for HD reception got way more channels than we did.
Thinking of converting back...

Well it depends being a cheap skate i might look into repairing it .

Most of us installed the king jack because the old winegard didn't
seem to pick up the new higher freq digital channels very well
unless you added the wingman .
The wingman really works , its cheap and easy to install
The problem is on many Monacos it makes the antenna to big and
when you lower it to travel mode it gets all tangled up with the satellite
and A/C .
So before going back to the winegard check clearance up on the roof .

Sheer physics (plus study/comparison on a spectrum analyzer on another forum) show better performance in the VHF range similar performance in the UHF range. Personal experience (and I like the Jack) gives the edge to the Winegard batwing. If I had the Jack don't think I would change back.

We just removed our winguard with the HD attachment. It was really bad. Got the older king jack replacement 8000 instead of the 8500 because the reviews on the 8000 were better. Went from only 3 channels to something crazy like 38 channels (im sure some are duplicates). We are in a rural area north of charlotte an hour in heavy trees. I think the big difference is the amplifier built into the king jack. We also have a signal tuner and coax tester. running the same coax from 2004 probably make replacing it a winter project but so far its functional.

Interesting. Maybe I have the 8500? I'll have to check when I get the coach back.

Ours has those weird black knobs sticking out of the wings and not as aerodynamic looking.

Yup, mine has those knobs on it. I get very poor reception. Not even sure how to troubleshoot something like that. With the booster on it makes a difference over having it off, but we get very few channels.

I replace the Winegard Sensor head with King Jack head unit only. I also ran a new RG6 cable. I think it works tons better. But my old one didn't work at all, so anything is a improvement. NorCal I get 56 OTA with King

You tried turning the antenna knob to tune it in? Either way we have their king signal meter (bought that trying to get the wingard to work) we used the meter to figure out what direction to start and then fine tuned from there. Basically point it towards the big city and start scanning on the tv. We even still have the old CRT tv with the HD converter. Working on that project today. Got the mammoth CRT out finally. That puppy was secured down better than at sketchy motel haha

If your antenna was damaged it probably damaged the coax. We picked up a coax tester at Lowes (because we were there) that tests the coax cable continuity and signal quality so we can figure out the cable nightmare left by the previous owners. The king antennas are good, if you are still getting poor results I would contact them. Maybe you have a bad unit.
