I spoke with a guy at the Pomona RV show this year that has a 07 40' PDQ Dip like mine and he told me that he replaced the bedroom TV with a new flat screen in the existing cabinet but it is hinged so that it opens like a cabinet door (the TV is the actual door), and that he uses it as extra storage, like a safe.
Has anyone made this modification and how did you do it? What type of frame with hinge etc, where to get it? It sounds like a great idea and I would like to do it.
Any help would be appriciated

I am searching Davis cabinets in Oregon to see if they make the tv support hinge to make this. I will let you all know what I find if you are interested.

Not sure where the hinges came from but on the FMCA mod forumn it show the bedroom tv attached to a drawer. So basically the tv was the drawer face.It is pretty cool, I was thinking of converting my Monaco that way but a hinge might be ok too.

That is a pretty cool mod. It really irked me that Monaco installed a cheesy 19" tube TV and used all that space in the upper cabinet. I ended up giving the RCA 19" TV to goodwill and converted the space to a storage cabinet. I made made an insert out of cork to fill the void left by the TV. Lots of storage space for blankets, extra pillows. Relocated the Sharp 26" to the bedroom when we installed a 32" to the main room.
Great mod and a good use of space. Most LCD's are less the 4" and would not impact the storage space behind the TV. Plus, the TV would be in a better position for viewing. Wish I would have thought of that.

Hi In our 05 Windsor the bedroom tv is mounted on the door on a rear storage cabinet. It did have a 20inch Sharp on it, but we have replaced it with a 26 inch Samsung. Both TV's weighed about the same. 16-18 lbs. The door is hung with a piano hinge and drilled for the 4 mounting screws and for cable power access to the TV. Works well All cables/power cords come up to the LCD thru the cabinet
PS the door is made from 7/8th cherry wood so no danger of pulling the mounting screws thru. If you made a similar setup(plywood) you could add a latching system to hold the door closed when travelling

hardy1000....I'm doing this exact project now. Mine is a little more intricate, but I'll throw it out there. I have the 19" RCA in the cabinet against the back wall. The door opens out at a little more than a 45 degree angle. I wanted to remove the old TV and just mount a flat panel to the cabinet door and gain all of that space behind it. I ran into two issues. I have a bedroom slide that would have interfered with a TV mounted on the cabinet door. The second issue was the ability to make it look right. A flat panel just didn't cover the square hole well. I didn't want to have to use filler material at the top and bottom.
A couple of years ago I had an extra cabinet door made by Monaco for a project that I decided not to do. The cabinet door is 9" wide and 23" tall. I'm waiting on the arrival of a second door, from Monaco, that measures 17 1/2" wide by 23" tall. The two cabinet doors, side by side, will cover the cabinet opening where the old TV was located. The cabinet is 30" deep. I plan to install a 26"-27" flat panel TV that will slide into the cabinet. It will slide out from the rear of the coach toward the front. This sliding part will be behind the small cabinet door. The large cabinet door will give access to the rest of the cabinet.
I hope I painted a mental picture. As soon as the door arrives from Monaco I'll begin work and take photos as I go.
The small door I purchased 3 years ago was $90.00. The larger one I just purchased was $223.00. I hope this second one is as nice as the first. The first was an exact match to my woodwork.

Take a look in "Logthumper's Photos" below, then in "Makeing it ours".
I beefed up the frame with angle braces. When the door is closed, a support on the left side is engaged with the frame and the whole thing becomes very solid. The door latch is there for safety against that big bump on the road. Got rid of a lot of weight, the old tv weighed a ton. Right now that extra space is packed full of neet stuff. Hope this will give you some ideas.

Here is a preview of logthumper's TV angle brace...
You all need to definitely take a look at all the neat things he has done!
Great job!

Lodthumper,
What kind of hinges did you use for the frame? you really matched the frame well with the color of your cabinets.

Some great ideas here. The new LED panels coming out that are about an inch or so thick will certainly lead to some very neat integration projects. Not only are they thin they also weigh much less than current panels. This will open up installing them easily on the ceiling and not be a head knocker or raise from a countertop and not take much away from the cabinet below.

The hinges are from Ace Hardware. Just looked untill I found what I was happy with.
No matching needed. The frame is what was already there. I beefed it up with some angle braces just to make sure everything would stay in alinement over time. Just added hinges and the rest was all trial and error untill I got the fit I wanted. Made sure the door would work first, then with the door removed, started with the tv. I temporlary mounted the side wood stand off tv mounts and then planed them down untill I got the tv setting against the frame where I wanted it, again trial and error. The wood tv stand offs are attached from the front, notice the wood hole plugs on the front of the frame. When the door swings closed, the left tv wood stand off mount fits into a notched out area on the left side of the opening. This makes for a very solid fit. Started with magnetic door catches but added the slide latch to make sure a bounce would not pop the door open.

Don,
Great integration idea. I considered something similar but I was too CHEAP LOL. When Monaco priced out the door(s) I opted for the beer budget solution. Anxious to see your pics when you get around to it.
