Upgraded steering wheel

I have a 2006 Monaco Knight 40 DFD. All the controls, such as cruise control, are on a side panel by the window, and require at least momentary glances away from the road to set or adjust. I'm aware that later models of Monacos--perhaps other than Knight--have such controls in the steering wheel. Has anyone had experience upgrading their steering wheel to one with at least cruise control, if not radio & bluetooth phone controls, in the wheel? I'm aware it would require a new top end steering column to provide the rotating disk to convey the signals to the wiring harness(es).

I have an '06 Knight as well and know what you mean about taking your eyes off the road. I have not heard of anyone attempting this type of upgrade. Although, if it can be done, the members of this forum could. The steering column is part of the chassis, and I believe the chassis were upgraded to a "smart wheel" design in the last few years. Good luck.

Here is the site that supplies the VIP steering wheels you are talking about.

Home | Vehicle Improvement Products Inc.

It might be possible to buy a used steering wheel & VIP controller at a salvage yard but the amount interaction the wiring has with everything is significant. All the relays would have to be added etc. Not a simple job for the faint of heart.

You would have to rewire the steering column buy a smart wheel and rewire everything to the smart wheel control box in the fuse bay under the driver and hook everything up , wow I don't think so.
