Upsetting news

I called a company to perform an inspection on the coach my wife and I are buying and the woman tells me, "Oh, a 2009 Monaco, not good." Needless to say it's not the news we were hoping to hear?

First, that's one opinion. Second, did they offer a reason for that evaluation? I wouldn't let one opinion sway me from inspecting and perhaps buying an RV.

What problems? The engine, transmission, and appliance companies are out there. The factory is still alive. Yes they went through an orphan stage but there is plenty of support available.

Tough to read but sounds like the woman was using anecdotal information to give an opinion. They may have just done an inspection on a Monaco that was not in good shape. Monaco like all manufacturers will have had an occasional problem coach.

I would look for an alternative company to do the inspection or ask her specifically what caused her to give that response.

It may be as well that they/she have very high standards and nothing would be adequate for them.

I sure hope you didn't pay much for that EXPERT opinion (that was worth about 2 cents) with no detailed explanation??? As stated get another opinion.

Take a look here: RV Consumer Group - We Rate RVs if you are getting ready to spend the money buying a new to you coach, an investment of $139 might be worth while. We did it prior to buying our Bay Star. If nothing else, it confirmed that we had picked a good coach.

As a 2009 owner I can say I've had no issues with the coach itself and a only a few with the Cat engine but everything was covered under the separate warranties. Find another person that will really do an inspection of the coach.

I know 2009 was the year monaco went bankrupt. I heard on other threads to avoid that year. I have no clue why.
They also have a CAT engine. I personally prefer a cummins.

Very good advice.

Fact: I have heard a dealer or others dis this or that brand or product...

And have heard others praise the very same product.

All depends on who is paying 'em commission.

Listen more to folks who OWN.. a good rule.

IF someone says something like: I really like my Make,Model,Style Listen to them

But if they tell you "I have a make, model, style and it is JUNK, LISTEN!!!! to them).

The OP has an '09 Dynasty listed in his info. I'm unaware of a Cat engine being used in any Dynasty. In '09 the engine would have been either a Cummings ISL or ISM.

I'd get a second opinion and somone else to inspect it. Sounds like she was being a bit flippant with her opinion.

Everyone will have their opinion on the diesel they like( and it's usually the one that their coach came with) but Cat made great diesels for Rvs. Don't let that discourage you.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Fibreglass cracks were a bit of a problem that year in particular. Other than that the coach just needs another inspector to look at it for mechanical and systems problems. Just the normal questions slides, levelling, electrical, tires, functioning control systems like thermostats, tv, Satellite and on and on. Look at the 3M shied on the front as well.
