Are we talking about a engine compression Jake brake or and exhaust Pac or Jacobs brake? Two totally different types of braking systems. I have a Jake compression brake on the engine right now and I use it as much as possible in town and on the road to reduce the wear on the service brakes. It will not damage anything as long as you do not use it with a cold engine because the oil is too thick and the oil pressure will be too high. With both the Jake engine brake and the Pac/Jacobs exhaust brake you need to be real careful on a slick wet road. If you suddenly apply braking to only the rear drive axle and have the transmission suddenly downshift then it is possible to put the MH in a skid. I have felt it on mine once and it is scary. I always switch my Jake to 3 cylinder operation when the roads are wet. You can't hear my Jake brake because of the muffler so I do not pay attention to those signs that say I can't use it. Both the ebgine compression brake and the exhaust brake are designed to be used without hurting the MH.

So you have a engine compression brake on your pickup or an exhaust brake?
