I have an audible noise that runs constantly and I've traced it to what may be the vacuum pump in the front compartment above the generator slide out tray. Is this a common problem with these things leaking or something else making this thing constantly running? I'm trying to minimize my trial and error on the repair.

If you are talking about a softball sized round shaped pump - that is the vacuum pump for your dash heater/AC unit, probably Evans Tempcon. Trace the vacuum hoses from that pump until you find the leak. Might be just a hose or might be a vacuum actuator on the dash air housing controlling the air ducts.

The noise not coming from the softball itself which I believe is the actual reservoir. It's coming from the pump (or generator) itself. I guess I can trace the hoses and check for leaks. They are just pressure fitted on so there is no way of tightening them. Not sure if this is a common problem so any other suggestions are welcome.

Thank you.

crah, nope not common. When the pump continues to run you normally have a cracked line or leak. Disconnect the line at the round ball tank coming from the pump and put your finger over it. If the pump stops, reconnect and disconnect the other side of the round ball and seal the output with your finger. If pump stops continue tracing in a like manner to find the leak.

The rubber tube gets old and replacing it is cheap and may be a good idea. You are correct it is just press-fit and no clamps. Just moving one of the hoses on one of the fittings will often cause it to leak.

That's it. You might also disconnect all the lines at the pump (label them) and plug the nipples on the pump to test the pump itself for internal leakage. If it checks OK then connect each hose one by one to isolate the leaking one.

First check and see if the pressure switch could be bad. To do that pull the hose off that goes to the reservoir. Next with the pump running hold your finger over the port on the pump. If the pump doesn't shut off then the switch is most likely bad. If the pump shuts off the there must be hose loose or a bad actuator.

Vacuum line elbows are often cracked when they get old. Available at Auto Zone, NAPA, etc.

I'd be very interested to hear the outcome, crah. Hope you find it and fix it! Those can be frustrating for sure.

I'm curious as to why the vacuum pump (if that ends up being the culprit) would be running continuously. My pump ('06 Endeavor) only runs at key turn-on and then intermittently while dash HVAC is active.

Just finished fixing it. I started with the hoses from the vacuum generator itself first. I simply removed the hose and put my finger over the stem. Started with the first hose, and moved on to the second. The second hose was the culprit. I simply cut the hose shorter and put it back on. I tested it going through the different vents. All good now. It only operates when I change the vent from off to vent, floor, defrost, etc.

Thanks for all the suggestions.
