Remove and the sensor in the coolant tank. Clean it using a scotchbrite pad. Sometimes that will cause the problem. Also old antifreeze can cause this. The manuals do say it is a fluid abnormality.
I had the light come on and stay for several months between trips. Checked everything and yes, I changed the coolant. Nothing got the light to go out. No codes were set.
On a trip to Florida last year I decided to stop at Cummings in Ocala to let them have a look. That morning for the first time, I saw a code set on my VMSpc for 'engine speed abnormal'. Turns out that was the problem. Nothing to do with any fluids. There are two of these sensors, one back up for the other. It is cheaper to replace both than to have Cummins trouble shoot them to determine which is bad. Cost around $275 and I was on my way.
