Hello All, I have a 2001 Monaco Dynasty 36'. This unit has a Dual Unit Water filtration system using two cartridges. I usually Winterize by using air pressure first then adding the RV winter antifreeze. Since the filters contain about 2 qts I have added a empty Water bottle to each after removing the filters (labels removed from bottles first}.
I started thinking about a method to block off the complete canister where the filter is inserted. This is the method used on a residential refrigerator when the internal water filter is not used.
Has anyone ever seen such a device that would fit the standard canister filter bowl?
thanks
Robert

I'm not sure how yours is plumbed, but you could possibly splice in a bypass line that starts at the water inlet to the first filter and the water outlet of the second filter.
You could also take two old filters, cut them off about an inch from the top and cut the bottom about an inch from the bottom. Gut the interior and glue/epoxy the two pieces back together. You could just screw these two modified filtesr on each year when you winterize. You could even partially fill them with expanding foam.
The expanding foam would also work if you can gut a filter without ruining it. Just spray it with foam leaving an inch of air space.

You go to Home Depot and buy a 6ft section of 1/2 PEX tubing and two PEX fittings of the correct sex with the Rhino self clamping device on them. (They will show you). Look at your filter setup first and see if you need male or female fittings. The actual bypass will end up being right about a foot long. It is so easy to do. I just made one. The trick is the two end fitting have to have that self clamping device incorporated in them. You cannot use a hose clamp because it will blow off. Turn your pump off and open the system drain. Not the tank drain to relieve the pressure and put the bypass in. Then you can take the filter containers off and store them for the winter.

Hi, Thanks for the responses. I could bypass as described, but I was hoping for a different solution. In my house I have a House water filter, my refrigerator came with a internal water filter which was supposed to be changed every 3-6 months. It was delivered with a Block off plate that could be left in place to bypass the internal filter. This was a simple item that took the place of the Water Filter Cartridge. That is what I had in mind. Cutting the lines and placing a valve would work but would open up a leak-free system to potential problems.
I envisioned a simple plate to replace the canister which could be installed when Winterizing and removed when De-Winterizing.

I use a filter by-pass plate from Camping World, but it does not appear in their catalog. A similar on is Amazon.com: Watts FP-WP100 3-5/8" Winterizing By-Pass Plate

Thanks rsflight that looks like what I could use. Do you have this one or the one from CW? I looked at the Amazon site, the one review was horrible. I don't see why.
I think I'm going to take a look at a filter canister and see how the sealing would work first hand. Is this simply a round disc?My MH is Winterized already so I cannot check it.
