I have read somewhere that a Sediment filter of 1 Micron would remove most water born things prior to going into the coach. Has anyone heard this and if so, which housing and filter element do you use?
This was started due to my dog getting the runs from strange water followed by my better half having similar problems on a recent trip through Kansas.

We have two hole house filters(nipled together) on the incoming hose.. I got them at Walmart and I put charcoal filter in one and setiment filter in the other.. I think the setiment is first in line.. I lay them on there side in the water compartment and strap them down.. We also have a small under the counter filter with a seperate faucet at the kitchen sink..

Thanks, did those housings come with garden hose fittings or did you have to modify?

Yes, they come with some brass fittings.. What ever else I needed I got at Ace hardware.. I think there was both hose and pipe fittings with the kits.. Either way it wasn't that hard to put together.. I leave my hose hooked to the filters and just roll it up in the compartment, that way all I have to do is unroll, feed it thru the hole in the bottom and go to the faucet..

A 1 micron filter will plug up very quickly. 10 is more normal for an RV. If you are trying to purify water a filter is not the answer. If you are just trying to remove dirt sediment and some other things it will work well. There is lots of information on the net. To purify water you must use chlorine and then filter out the taste.

What moisheh said. You can't remove microbes with a mechanical filter. The water must be treated chemically or boiled.

What these guys are saying is true, if you're wanting to filter out everthing these filters won't do it.. That's way we don't use water out of the tank to drink or anything of that nature, just flushing and that type of stuff..

Interesting... so you carry large quantities of store bought water with you while traveling?

You need a reverse osmosis filter (RO filter). It will take out microbes. Avaiable at Costco or Walmart for around $150-200. Do some reading about it online.

In September I put in a RO system in my 08 Ambassador, after several calls to Richard and the RV water filter store, I finished the install, everything works beauitful, we have fresh water for coffee and it tastes wonderful...I am draining my waste back into the fresh water tank and we use enough fresh water from tank so it works fine....love it...JC

I believe you need to go down to 0.5micron before they are labeled to remove cysts. Also every filter I have examined says to start with biologically safe water. That says it all for me......
