The waterline to the refrigerator was leaking (no matter how tight it was) where it hooks to the blue electronic thingy. I cut it apart thinking I would put it all back together as it was. No such luck. The little ring wont go back on the plastic tube. For now I turned the water valve off under the sink that goes to the fridge.

My question; is there a tool needed to get it all back together? If not, how is it done?

Thank you in advance.

There are three components a nut, a Ferrule and maybe a short brass tube. Make sure you have cut back the 1/4 plastic tube to give you a clean end. First slide the nut over the tube, then push the ferrule over the tube, now push the brass inside the tube. The ferrule will be tight going over the tube.

My problem is that I can't get the old ferrule over the tube. I will pick up a few new ones tomorrow as that must be the problem.

Thanks you guys.

The old ferule squeezes diameter/ A new one of the proper size will fit. If you have enough tube cut a short piece off to take to get the new ferrule.

Home Depot has all the parts you need. Also it is best to have a special small brass insert that is specially made to go inside the end of the plastic pipe so the ferrule will have something hard to squeeze down on. Also available at HD.
