Weldex Rear Camera Issue

Have Monaco Knight DFD 2006 with Weldex side and rear camera system.

Turn the system on whether in driveway or running down the road and if I leave it on and use the turn signal it may work ok several times then it takes a notion to go "fuzzy", lines etc. If I simply turn the system off momentarily a clear view comes back.

If I leave it off for a length of time, i.e. to cool down (?), it works fine for a short while then starts the fuzzy stuff again.

Any suggestions?

Thanks...jim

Are you having trouble with the camera, monitor or both? The reason I ask, is there's been threads on iRV2 (see multiple threads listed here) & other RV forums on problems with the Weldex systems of that age. Our 5" black & white CRT monitor became defective (fading picture, blanking out...etc) last season & our extended warranty covered full replacement with a 7" LCD color monitor. The replacement is light years ahead of what came with our coach. We upgraded to a color camera (at our expense) to complete the set.

Hi Lori, thanks for the headsup. I misspoke and it is actually the crt/screen in the dash and not the camera that gets line and fuzzies up. Turning it off for a short time, as if to let it cool down, makes such go away for a period of time but the issue comes right back doing the same thing.

Just curious who your extended warranty is with?

No end to our way.......rving and loving it too..........jim

The problem all the threads discuss is with the display from the rear camera going blank or getting very fuzzy. In general the display from the side cameras and the Aladdin system are OK. One of the first things I would check is the 12 volt and ground going to the monitor. I don't think you have an Aladdin system so I am not sure how the cameras are connected to the monitor, but I would look for one of the cables or connectors getting loose. What was happening on the Diplomats and Endeavors was that the cable coming from the rear camera would lose signal when it got hot, wire was not large enough to carry the 12 volts and video to and from the rear camera.

Here is a thought to eliminate the rear camera being the problem, just disconnect it from the monitor and see if you get a fuzzy picture from the side cameras.

I had the same problem
I replaced the monitor with a new monitor. It is color but cameras are b/w
It works fine. Hooks up just like the old one. Just pull off the camera plate and hook it up the same way. Took me about 2 hours cause I am slow and careful.
Mine shows in B/W since I have B/W cameras. No Problem.
You can call Roland at weldex 714-761-2100.
I paid 439.00 for my new one.

Assurant.

I do want to clarify we didn't need to replace the camera, it was fine, we just chose to. We've seen several color systems in newer RV's & since the warranty paid for replacing the old B&W CRT monitor with a color LCD monitor, we decided to change out the B&W camera with a color one. Very nice.

Lori and others... just a note - but you can no longer put links in for searches that you have performed. The link becomes invalid after about an hour. Yo can go to the Advanced Search section here and perform a search on Weldex (or anything else you would like to find)

I had a 2006 Monaco Knight PDQ similar to yours with the Weldex. I experienced similar problems with the B&W unit and like resindiana, I replaced it with the LCD color screen and also added the color camera for the rear. I left the B&W cameras in place for the left/right turn units. Big improvement overall.

Install is easy. All the cables are there already, it's just plug and play.

We later traded the coach, but it was good while we had it.

Since day one our weldex system has been intermittent, traveling down the road it becomes scrambled then goes gray I'll turn it off and on and a bright clear picture comes back on. I was told two different things one was a bad ground the other was a bad system anyone have a clues or ideas.

I have a 2006 HR that had the same camera problem, I did have the system replaced by Monaco when they had their service center in Wildwood, Fl.
What I learned from them was the Aladdin Jr system and cameras were all hooked together and for lack of tecnical knowledge, they don't get along!
Now my camera system is a voyager color system seperate from the Aladdin system, except the monitor is used by Aladdin.
So after many camera-less backups and several times to the dealer for loose wires (bs) and camera changes...
Thanks (old Monaco)

I think the final consensus was that the cable from the rear cable was poor and when things heated up there was interference in the video signal. Since that cable carries 12 volt power, up and down control, audio and video it was susceptible to cross talk among the various signals and thing got worst in hot weather. When the Weldex system is replaced by the voyager a new cable is installed from the rear camera and it is run under the coach instead of in the overhead therefore less heat.

I have a 06 Travel Supreme Select and I have been having the same problems except mine is already colored. I am not sure the heat is the issue. Mine will act up right away coming out of indoor storage. I have found removing the screen and moving the wires in the back sometimes takes care of the problem. I had the monitor replaced last year and 30 miles down the road it acted up again in the same manner. Not a good system. A new one my be in order. Just some more thoughts on the issue.

I had same problem, called Weldex and first thing they had me do was trace the wires from the camera, they hook into the wireing system about 3 feet from the camera end. If the connection is not tight it will cause a problem. I ended up just taking mine out and sending it in to them to check it out. Mine was color and had the lines then went black. I had to have it replaced. I haven't been able to locate the "shop" I sent it to. It was not the Weldex head quarters but a shop in California that had same day turn around and would check it for ya. Good luck

Thanks for the info. I have checked that connection in the rear and it appears to be tight. Others have suggested soldering the connection and that has helped. Did replacing the screen help. I had my screen replaced but it is still doing the same thing. It is just a bad system from what I have read with other posts. If you come up with the shop that repaired it let me know. I am in Calif. so that would be convienent assuming they are still in business. Have a good one. Thanks again.
