What length do I need from the cheater pipe?

With a cheater pipe on my heavy Breaker Bar, how far from the wheel lug does a 100 pound push give 500 LBS Torque? Or, how long does a pipe have to be? , Also, who knows the real measurements of Ride Hight for a 96Dynasty? I know where to measure, but have conflicting measures Many thanks, allegro5 or greatallegro5@aol.com

you would need a 5 ft bar. With 100 lbs of force each foot exerts 100 ft/pounds of torque. Proper torque application is to apply incremental force leading up to the final torque needed. Very difficult to quesstimate 100 lbs of applied force though. Can you rent a torque wrench? Can't help with the ride height.

I have a 3/4 drive socket set that I got from Harbor Freight for about $49. I have used a 6ft cheater pipe without breaking the breaker bar. When I had my new tires put on they cranked up the torque and my 3/4 air wrench with 175lbs of air pressure couldn't loosen the lugs. So I needed the cheater pipe. I put the lug nuts back on with my own air wrench.

foot pounds of torque = force (pounds times the lever are in ft) 100 pounds of force requires 5 feet to make 500 ftlbs of torque.

My real question is what requires 500 ftlbs of torque? That is very high torque and will over stress most fasteners used on our RVs. If something has been torqued to that level, when it should have been torqued to much less, it is probably damaged and must be replaced. I though that 22.5 inch wheel stud torque is in the neighborhood of 250 ftlbs but haven't been able to find a reference. Hope this is helpful.

My MH has 22.5" Alcoa aluminum wheels and the maual calls for 450 ft. lbs. of torque. I lubricate the lugs with anti seize and lubricate the lug nuts that have built in washer with oil before installing. Iuse a 3/4" breaker bar with a 2 ft 3" pipe and weigh 200 lbs which converts to 450 ft. lbs. Torque in sequence and progressively. KDK

My old 96 Dyn has 1-1/2 nuts and they have no washers. The wheels are Alu. and the book says 500#. I have a 4ft pipe and thats going to have to do it! I am 6'1 and 225, but won't stand on the pipe! If the wheel comes off, I will just blame the little woman!! allegro5

My owner's manual says that the wheel studs are supposed to be tightened to 450 to 500 lb. dry (no lubricant on threads).

My info. that I've accumulated says ride height is Front: 9 1/2", Rear: 11" for the '94,'95, and '96 Dynasty.

Why are you doing a wet torque on wheel studs? Unless specifically having special instructions bolts are dry torqued You should clean the studs with a wire brush if the is evidence of rust. My suggestion would be to removes the nuts an clean nuts and studs with a oil free cleaner that drys completely with no residue. I do not plan on changing or pulling off any tire on the MH. That is what road service and a truck repair shop are. After changing large aircraft tires and 18 wheeler tires for about 15 years I do not mind paying someone else to work with them.

Try reading the lug nuts. Our 22.5" tires are 450 ft lbs., it is stamped right in them. I learned this by calling freightliner (much to my embarrassmment) last week.

My book says 500 dry and 350 oiled! It says the do-no recomend any oil! I would like to use the oil and not have to tighten so much! Bet then I dont dare! Be sure there is clean and dry lugs and nuts! My 96 Dyn has the old style solid nuts! I am only 73, so maybe when I get older I will have the courrage to use the oil! Ps I dont spell to pretty good either! Allegro5
