Good evening,
I,ve been reading the threads about replacing the current Norcold or Dometic refrigerator's with a residential one.
It seems the Samsung LF197 is the preferred model but I've measured the opening several times and I can only come up with 681/2 inches from the ceiling to the top of the furnace housing below. I believe the Samsung's height measurement is 69 3/4 inches.
Has anyone out there replaced there refrige and found one that is just an inch or two shorter? If so what brand and model number did you get.
Thanks,
Keith

This one came from factory on my 2005 dynasty. Not sure if it is still available or not but fits well in my space. REFRIGERATOR WHIRLPOOL GS2SHEXNBOO

Florida Panhandler,
Thanks for the reply and link. It won't open for me either so I will try and see if I can join this particular discussion group.
Thanks again, Keith

If you can use a standard door frig as opposed to the French door you should have many choices. You may have to close up the cabinet a little on each side because the Norcold/Dometic are usually wider than standard door fridges. We could not use a standard door frig because the frig is located in a narrow hall passage. The single door type fridges need to much room to swing open. Take a look at where your frig will be located and measure how wide a door will open. You can usually mount the doors to open on the left or on the right. Good luck.
P.S. Look for cabinet depth friges.

Bob,
Thanks for the info. We have the room and could go with either a French door type or the standard one door. The Samsung is sharp looking of course and hoping we can find something just a little bit shorter that is similar.
Will be sure that whatever we select is cabinet depth. Thanks for the tip.
By the way have you been back to Topsail lately? I believe we were there at the same time a couple of years ago but unaware you were there. That prompted me to get the IRV2 placard for the windshield.
Happy and safe traveling to you.
Keith

The way I located a fit was by measuring hight, width and depth and going to the different manufacturers websites. They all list exterior dimensions. I found an Amana that is a perfect fit, no cabinet work needed,

Keith,
Yes we were at Topsail at the same time a few years back. We have not been back down to Topsail since then but have been over to Gulfshores. Daughter lives just south of Birmingham so we go down that way every now and then.

Bob,
Haven't been to Topsail since then I believe but have been a few miles East on 30A and stayed at Grayton Beach State Park. They have a full hookup campground now. Nice Park but not as nice as Topsail. Main attraction for us is some nice coastal lakes that we can kayak on since we're into that now. Stayed over in Gulf Shores once and that was nice.
Seems we're traveling out West more and more and I imagine with retirement approaching this year that longer distances from home will continue.
Nice talking to you.
Happy trails.
Keith

Hi all, I've installed the Samsung 197, 3 door refrigerator with great results, on our 2008 HR Ambassador. I lowered the shelf holding up the old Norcold, which is also the furnace enclosure. It worked perfect, and we have lots of ice and Ice Cream...2008 HR Ambassador, 38 PDQ. JC

We, too, have a Samsung RF197. We had two shallow drawers below our Norcold which were sacrificed to get the needed extra height. We think it is the best improvement we have done to our MH. We have lots more space and the ice cream stays frozen!
