Wife and I just got back from our 1st snowbird trip south and thought I would share a problem we had with the ABS light on our 1999 Monaco Diplomat.
We left Washington (15 miles west of Olympia) after I took 8 inches of snow off the roof of the motorhome Febuary 28th, all went well until we were east of Bakersfield, traveling toward Ehrenburg and a beeping noise came from the dash, then I noticed the ABS light was on. The light went out the beeping stopped and all was well,,,, then again the beeping but no light? Now the beeping stopped but the light is on! We were on some bumpy roads at the time. I pulled the coach over, and of course the noise stopped and did a look around, thinking what the h would an ABS system do anyway on this heavy drum brake equippted coach. Well I looked for something loose or anything! The beeping had stopped anyway so we headed out again. My wife is pretty smart, she said turn up the radio! Good idea. We had gone another 20 miles or so, with the beeping and the ABS lite going off and on as we traveled. We pulled off at a rest area for lunch with the beeping and flashing. The beeping was still going so I stuck my head under the dash to see just where it was coming from, well here's the answer. It was coming from one of the drawers in the console. I store my Acurite indoor/outdoor temperature unit in the console when we are moving the coach, that is where the beeping was coming from! The batteries would get loose from the rough road and every time they made good contact it would bootload back up looking for the remote unit(in my refer) and the freq must be close enough to what the ABS uses and it would set it off. I repositioned the temp unit and never had another problem! We've been on many trips but it has never troubled us before!
Well thats my story, and I'm sticking to it!
