Today I was moving the coach (2006 Monarch SE) form one storage area to another. I wae almost there when I smelled burnt brakes. When I parked at the new lot, I noticed a leak of what I think is wjeel mbearing oil at the front tire. Any ideas?

It sounds like the wheel bearing seal has gone south and you should have it checked out immediately. Oil from oil filled wheel bearings will destroy the brake shoes and that gets $$$. Replacing the seal is not expensive.

Check the cover if they are oilers and see if it is just loose, also check the filler plug. If the leak is in the rear and the fluid level was not over filled then you will probably have to replace the seal, if you have grease hubs then its the seal.

I think, that Monaco uses packed wheel bearings in place of oilers -- If thats true in your case, it`s probably a seal -- Since your the seal will have to be replaced, now would be a good time to have oilers installed -- Not much more expense, since the other wheel should be checked also -- Much easier for future maintiance -- I have a 07 Camelot, & had oilers installed as soon as I found out that the coach didn`t have them -- I don`t care for packed bearings on heavy equipment -- Bill Willard

Bill,
Ironically, some of the models do have oil filled wheel bearings. Why Monaco does not install then in all models is a mystery. I believe the Monarch is one of the models that do have oil filled wheel bearings. I'm just about at the repacking interval and will be switching over when I take the coach in, if not oil filled then semi-liquid grease.

Got the motor home towed to a repair shop. They replaced the seal, and when I asked them if they knew what could have caused it, they said they didn't know, that it must have been a bad seal. I left the shop and the abs light came on so I turned around. Picked the coach up the next day and was told the sensor was stuck, and had been cleaned. Everything sems to be working OK now, but might have a tire leak. Willcheck it tomorrow.
Thank goodness for CoachNet. The tow would have cost me around $350.00. Coach net called when they called the towing Co., again when they were on the way, and again to see that the tow truck arrived. My plan is to renew for the 3 year price, and I will still come out ahead. I was lucky that the chassee is still under warranty. My total cost $00.00. Thanks aain Coachnet for a smooth experience.

Bill the Workhorse chassis comes with oilers, not sure about the Ford. You are right about the Monaco Roadmaster chassis, grease only.

We recently purchased a 2002 Windsor and went out the other day to change the fluid in the wheel bearings. Our Endeavor was on a Freightliner and had oil filled bearings. Found out that they were grease packed bearings and from the posts above understand that they can be changed to oil filled. My question is where can this be done. Much easier to change oil vs having wheel bearing packed. Thanks, Jim
