When your Norcold 1200 goes dead after the recall

READ!!!!!

Troubleshoot Norcold Recall | Reset Recall | Fridge Off | Norcold Not Working

Is your Norcold not working? This page is to troubleshoot Norcold recall and share reset recall information if you experience fridge off or Norcold not working.

ARPrv Policy

The following information has been gained by our customers. This information is provided to help troubleshoot Norcold recall boxes, not to alter them. We are not an authorized Norcold repair facility, thus all information on this page can be considered hearsay, it is the opinion of our customers, and we cannot confirm the truth behind this information regarding the Norcold retrofit.

We at ARPC L.L.C. do not reset these devices, we recommend our customers to take their Norcold fridges to Norcold authorized dealers for any re-set or work on this control. Often we are told that Norcold authorized dealers bypass the NHTSA 10E-049 recall kit. This decision is between the end user of the Norcold product and the authorized Norcold repair facility, thus the end user assumes all responsibility for their decisions based on the advice given by others.
Note: If you are going to work on the power supply to your RV, always remove power as a safety precaution. But, in the case of the Norcold kit, remove the power to the terminal marked +12V IN, this may prevent the kit from turning off the fridge and requiring a reset.

-- What to do first if Norcold recall or ARP Trips --

Troubleshoot Norcold Recall

RESET: The figure to the left is a Norcold recall found on the 1200 series fridges. Our customers have informed us that these recall kits can be reset if there is a fridge off or not working situation. If your fridge is off, the first step is to see if the red LED is turned on? If so, Norcold recommends paying a service technician to inspect your system for leaks. If you are camping remote, and you are qualified to know the cooling unit does not have leaks, see next section. We state this because the most common cause of these recalls turning off is water on one of the controller parts.

LED ON: If the red LED is on, some of these kits have been rest by Norcold users when they can not get into a Norcold repair facility. Our customers have identified the area above the LED where a strong magnet may be applied to the box to try and reset it, we recommend having a qualified Norcold technician perform all repairs. We are told if one does not have a strong magnet, the cover can be removed by compressing the clips identified in the image to the left. Please use this link to identify the area to apply the magnet: Norcold 1200 Series Recall.
PLEASE NOTE, the Norcold control can be reset if and only if the boiler has cooled. Restated, the Norcold temperature sensor is not hot. It is possible to disconnect the temperature sensor plug found between the +12VIN and +12VOUT wires and put a jumper between these wires in order to fool the control. A strong magnet held for greater than 5 seconds should reset the control. Please contact Norcold to have your recall box replaced and have your fridge checked when you can get in for an appointment.
WARNING: Norcold dealers are not allowed to stock these controls so be prepared for a wait.
LED FLASH FAST (On/Off ~2 or 3 times per second): A Norcold service technician stated (not confirmed) that this could mean that the sensor is not connected to the recall kit. Or, the sensor that can be identified by red and yellow wires has an open circuit. Remove the plug found between the +12VIN and +12VOUT wires put a jumper between these wires. If the light quits flashing you found your problem.
LED FLASH SLOW (On/Off ~once per second): A Norcold service technician stated (not confirmed) that this could mean that the voltage supplied to your fridge is too low. In some documents the low voltage for a typical RV fridge is 10.5VDC, but this is just a rule of thumb. Customers have stated that the low voltage threshold is 9.5VDC on the Norcold recall. Use your volt meter to find the connection that has high resistance or charge your batteries. Also, failed inverter charging systems can cause problems. In this case, disconnect your rig from shore power and make sure your batteries are fully charged to continue searching for a high resistance connection that can lead to a voltage drop in your system. Please start at the RV source of power, which should be a fuse block.

Troubleshoot Norcold Recall Wiring

The drawing to the left shows how power gets from your RV to the Norcold refrigerator control via the Norcold high temperature kit. Please use following link to see where the ARP Control can be with respect to these wires: Norcold 1200 Wiring

If your fridge is not working, please start by checking your fuses and circuit breakers. If the Norcold kit LED is turned on, it can be assume that there is power to the kit. We are told that Norcold service personal will connect the red wire from the coach power supply to the blue wire to the Norcold fridge control to test the fridge function. If the fridge turns on, then the Norcold recall box has failed and a Norcold authorized service department should replace the recall free of charge according to our clients.
