Which would you choose? Why?

If given the choice between a 1995 M11 400HP and a 1997 M11 (ISM) 450 HP which would you choose. Both are in 40 foot Monaco's.

I have to make a choice between the two. The 95 is a Crown Royal Signature and the 97 is an Executive.

Both engines more than cover my power to weight ratio. My thoughts/concerns lie with mechanical fuel injection in the 95 vs the electronic injection in the 97.

I will be towing approximately 6000 pounds.

Does one offer better fuel economy or reliability over the other?

Any thoughts, opinions or advice?

Thanks.
Don

So in this "section" (Monaco owners), my response won't be about the engines...but that of living in your rig. One or two features found in one rig (but not the other) might represent a tipping point. Short stays?....or long? Shore power always available? By yourself?....or with a S.O. with you? Stuff like that is a personal decision.

BTW: What's your tow that makes it 3 tons?

Most stays are 2 weeks or less, five or six times a year. Most trips will be towing a car trailer (2000#) with a Land Cruiser (4000#) on top of it through the Sierra Nevada Mtns.

I'm simple, a place to eat, sleep, stay dry and watch television.

Most stays will be without hookups. Holding tank sizes are a definite consideration.

Travel will be with me and the Mrs. She would be happy with a space to sew her quilts.

When I see a coach with a 100 gallon fuel tank vs a 200 gallon fuel tank, I'm guessing that the larger tank wasn't installed so you could go twice as far The earlier model has the larger fuel tank.

What kind of mileage are on the units vs price. 200 gallon tank might be nice if generator is diesel can't imagine the mpg will be that much different between the two engines.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. Our '95 Cummins 8.3 mechanical fuel injection engine runs like new at 140,000 miles, and for our coach has power to spare. It gets comparably the same fuel mileage as the newer coaches with electronic injection engines.

I think either engine would be a good choice.

The 1997 with the ISM had 50,000 miles on it. I saw the coach today and was a little disappointed. The coach was not in the same condition as the ad led me to believe. Just driving up to it you could tell it had major paint issues. It also had bubbles in the paint at the left rear corner. Does delamination present itself this way?
