who has replaced their exhaust manifold/or gasket

Just curious who has replaced their exhaust manifold/and or gasket. I just posted on the cummins forum on suggestions of replacing the gasket or the manifold as well. My manifold is two pieces. I wonder how many Cummins ISC owners have had this problem?

I had to replace an exhaust manifold gasket on a cummins 350 several years ago. Had it done at a truck repair place in Vancouver WA. Think it cost about $1200 - have not had that coach for several years and no longer have the records. They went with the coach,

Mine warped and popped some of the bolts. Two piece manifold. I had it machined flat and replaced all the bolts, gaskets and spacers. I did all the work myself except for the machining. Cost about $100 with my free labor.

My 99 ISC manifold cracked about 4 years ago. It cost about $450 for the parts.

I had to have my 33 ISC manifold replaced two years ago for the same reasons. I don't remember the cost exactly as it was part of a head gasket repair - all together parts from Cummins were $5000 plus labor!

My 330 cummins exhaust manifold cracked this year. Had it replaced for 750.00. Split manifold. I understand the new ones are thicker

Our 2 piece was just replaced due to warp of 16 thousandths "run out".. Max allowable is 10........It was definately leaking... $1400 total bill. This was at the Cummins dealer who said the old manifold could be ground flat but they were not allowed to do.. New parts only but they were only 3-400 bucks....

Replaced mine on ISL. About $60 for gaskets. My labor. Soak bolts really good for days ahead. Try 50/50 mix of acetone and trans fluid. Or Kroil. No bolts broken and only moved the manifold out enough to slide in the new gaskets. About 20k miles ago, no problems.

I replaced the gaskets 3 times along with the manifold the last time on my 99 ISC Dynasty in the 95,000 that I owned it.

This tool, available from NAPA, proved invaluable for extracting broken manifold bolts.

On my current ISL, I've only had to replace my manifold to turbo gasket recently at 45,000 miles.

Just had gaskets replaced on my ISL 400 exhaust manifold at a Cummins certified repair centre. Engine has 55k miles on it. A loud screaming noise led us to the manifold. Leak was at #4 exhaust port. Technician loosened bolts with air wrench. He left two bolts loose in place and slid the manifold and turbo 1/4" away from engine block. Replaced all 6 gaskets and re-torqued the new bolts. Total time was 2.1 hours to complete the repair. Total bill was $330. All the work was done through bedroom and closet floor trap doors.

This seems to be more common on the ISC and ISL engines than most others. I had an exhaust leak on our ISL when we purchased the coach seven years ago. If memory serves it cost about $80.00 for the gaskets and all new fasteners from Cummins. My exhaust manifold was warped slightly so I trued it and reinstalled it with OEM gaskets and all OEM fasteners. That was approx. 40k miles ago.

Just finished replacing the manifold gaskets in our old C8.3 mechanical engine. Had to resurface the one piece manifold. Not too big a job, soaked the bolts for several days with Kano Kroil. One bolt broke, a bit of a bear to get out, but it's done.

Interesting that the ISC and ISL engines are having more trouble with this. I always thought that the two piece manifold would alleviate the problem, not increase it.
