We have a 40' 2000 Monaco Dynasty. Yesterday I noticed that the seal and windshield on the lower right passenger side has a gap on the outside. I looked from below and sure enough, it is about 10 inches long right at the lower curve of the window and I can look up and see that the glass has a 1/4 inch gap about 6 inches long where is does not meet the coach.

My first thought was that I could just squirt some black sealer up there, but, then I thought that it would only fix the leak and not the underlying problem. The last thing we need is to have the windshield come loose while driving on the Chicago tollway.

Has anyone else had this problem? I've done some research and those that have had problems mention that the windshield has to be "reset". I'm wondering if anyone can do this or if I should take it to a Monaco service dealer that is about 25 miles away.

Just looking for some other opinions.

Thanks in advance.......Pat

Just had the same problem except the windshield actually came out of the seal. Took it to a local glass shop and they sealed the seal to the coach frame and then they sealed the windshield to the seal. So far so good, even after heavy rains. No use going to a Monaco dealer because they will just sub it out to a local glass shop.

Thanks Chuck.... I just heard back from the Monaco dealer and they told me that their glass guy is only in on Mon and Fri, so that verifies that they sub it out. So, were they able to do it at your location? Or, did you have to take it to them.

I'm curious to follow this thread as well. Is part of the problem a deteriorated seal? I'm just wondering that if they have to pull the glass, should you do the seal at the same time, or is the seal ok?

The seal does NOT appear to be damaged. I did talk to the local Monaco dealer this morning and he said that they would not be able to say whether they would have to replace the seal until they looked at it.

This is a common problem with motorhomes. The manuf. do not eurathane the windshields in. Not because it isn't better but because you have to let the coach sit 24 hrs after you reseat and seal it. If you don't mind driving to atlanta, we have a great company (city wide glass) that will reseat it and it will stay. they have done dozens for us with no returns.

I have a similar problem with the windshields in my Windsor. I have not had one come out of the gasket but I have wind and water leaks that come and go.
I have been afraid to try to seal between the windshield and gasket because of the amount of movement between the two while on uneven roads/parking lots. Seems like it would put a lot of stress on the glass if you take away the ability for it to move around in the windshield opening.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Contacted a Monaco Service Center about my problem. They informed me that the "glass guy" was in on Monday and Friday and that the cost of resealing the windshield was going to be $600-$650. I contacted a glass outfit that does RV's (could be the same one that the Monaco Service Center uses).... He said $180 if the glass did NOT have to be removed. $500 if it did because it is one piece and takes 4 guys to remove it. I am going there tomorrow morning at 8am and will provide a feedback to this thread.

Side comments: Dealer said if the gasket is not torn or ripped it does not have to be replaced.

Glass dealer said: driving off on a shoulder may twist the frame and cause the glass to slip out of the gasket. He also will ask us to sign a waiver in case the glass breaks during the fix (admits that he has never broke a windshield). Also said that there are some clips that attach the seal to the glass. They will remove all holding clips and then re-seat the glass, seal and re-attach clips.

I will post here after the "procedure" has been accomplished.

Pat

What a pleasant experience.

I was told to be at Restoration Auto Glass in New Brighton, MN between 8 and 8:30. (suburb of Minneapolis/St Paul). I expected to find myself in an industrial complex with potholes and run down buildings. Instead it was a near new facility that had excellent access for RVs. I was met by Steve who was their RV expert. It became apparent that he knew what he was doing. We said that we would run out for breakfast and he told us to return in about 2 hours. He also directed us to an excellent breakfast place. When we returned they were cleaning the windshield. He told us that he adjusted the windshield and then cemented the windshield to the gasket and then the gasket to the frame. It was a professional job. The cost was $180 and we were very satisfied. He asked that we not level the coach for two days so that the sealant could set up. I could not have been happier and I would recommend this shop to anyone that needs work done on their RV glass.

The glass does not float anymore, so I am aware that it may put some stress on the glass. If I have any problems I'll be back and post here again.

Whe we were in the Monaco service facility at Harrisburg, Or, the old Safari plant, there were a couple of coaches in for what they called a halo kit to keep the shield from popping out and cracking. When I suggested that they do the same for all the other coaches out there with the problem the reception got icy.

Wish I knew if that actually worked as a permenant fix for the problem.

city wide glass did dozens of windshields for us and not one cracked. Eurethane is a glue, but it is flexable, just like the rubber seal.

I have replace 3 windshields in 3 years due to stress cracks. Talked to the factory and they did not mention halo fit. I have a '04 40 ft Windsor. Have you had any additional problems?
