Windsor- Bedroom Slide Dewald Gear Noise

I have a 2002 Windsor 40 PST with 3 slides. The bedroom slide works fine but just at the end of the cycle, either opening or closing, as you reach the stop the Dewald Gear/Motor begins to make a gear noise . It sounds like a gear slipping in the Dewald gear housing. Again, the slide moves end and out smoothly but the gear noise occurs when the slide stops at the end of the cycle.
I haven't yet removed the Dewald Motor/Gear Assy P/N 023849 for inspection but would like any comments and possible cause.

Larry

Larry is your slide run by an electric motor, or is it hydraulic? If hydraulic using a Dewald motor on the pump, the fluid may be low. Check the following if hydraulic:

Larry,

I am sure your bedroom slide is electric as I have a 2002 Windsor PBT and get a similar sound at the end of travel in each direction. It sounds as though the gear cog is jumping. I am not sure if it is causing any damage, however the original owners warned me about the sound and said "not to worry" as it was a normal sound with just that slide. They used it frequently for 18 months while traveling to promote a new business, and I have used it infrequently for the past 6 1/2 years of ownership. I plan to be using it more now that I am going to be on the road more. When using the bedroom slide, I try not to let that happen at each end of the slide cycle. I watch to see when it is just about finished and toggle the switch off and on until the slide hits the seals.

The other two slides, roadside living room & dinette slide and the curbside kitchen slide are also electric. I had to replace my kitchen slide Power Gear motor around the end of last year. The dang thing shorted out just sitting there doing nothing! Both of these slides act differently than the bedroom slide. Upon reaching the end of travel, they basically stall without any additional noises. I think the gearing system is different in those versus the bedroom.

Our bedroom slide does the same. We also try to catch it at the end of travel to minimize the number of "pops". Our living room slide does not make this noise.

NMBeenercouple......Mike Norton needs your expertise/findings on his generator slide issue. He posted yesterday and apparently has the same issue you were experiencing. See "Generator Will Not Come Out".

Rex,Richard,Beemercouple,

Yes it is an Electric Dewald slide Motor/Gear Assy.

Thank You Very Much For The Quick and Accurate Response. I will do as you recommend and slowly approach the end of the slide cycle to avoid the gear noise.

This is a great Forum and source of info for Monaco. We just recently purchased this coach and of course it doesn't have an Owners Manual. I would be happy to pay for a copy of the 2002 Monaco Windsor 40PST , Cummins 350HP manual if anyone would be willing to go to the trouble of sending it to me. I have called Monaco and they say it is presently not available but they are working on it. That was 6 mos. ago.

I have a 07 Knight and the bedroom slide makes that ratcheting sound right at the end of travel. There must be some kind of clutch that is doing it. When I first bought the mh the dealer said it was supposed do that.

Hi Larry,

As it turns out, I had to remove my manual from the spiral binder as the pages were ripping away from the spiral. Then I punched 3-ring holes to put the pages into a hard-sided binder. Since the pages are separate now, it would be easier to copy. However, I am really pressed for time right now in that I am leaving for Alaska by the end of this week and I don't see anyway to make a copy for you for at least a month or more. Sorry, maybe not much better than Monaco.

If you can wait that long, I can make a copy for you and send it off for the cost of paper and shipping. The floor-plan doesn't matter. I have a PBT.

Larry,

Send me a PM with your contact information and then I can get back to you with mine. Once I have the entire manual copied which will take some time, I will contact you with the details. I also have the Cummins ISC-350 manual but making a copy of that will be very difficult. For that I would suggest contacting a Cummins engine service center to see if they can supply one to you.

My 2007 Monaco had that noise until the nylon gear tooth sheared off. It acts as a clutch against the metal gear it is mated to. You get to buy the whole assembly when the nylon gear gives out. For the cost of a 50 cent gear you pay $300. Don't put the slide out or in until you hear it slip, stop just before. We used a mark on the carpet. My memory is that it is a lippert brand of gear housing.

I believe the sound you hear is a clutch that prevents the motor from over torquing the slde or breaking somthing.

I have the same problem, just bought my 2002 Windsor last week and it has no Owners Manual. I will also gladly pay for the copying and time spent to make a copy.

Phil
