Winegard Trav'ler sat dish on 38 ft 2001 Diplomat
We own a 2001 38 ft diplomat . We installed the following over the past year:
2 160 watt solar panels; extra 4 battery pack; flat screen tv's; wifi computer; modified computer desk; 6 New Michelins.
We want to install a winegard automatic Trav'ler satellite dish. would like to know any information such as what experiences you have, is it feasible?, where is the best place and method of installation considering that the roof is thin thin thin,,,, I called Monaco tec support and they do not reccommend it, because there is no supporting structure under the roof skin..
If no one supports the idea , what other ideas are out there besides portables?
we would appreciate some tec help and success stories.

I have a Winegard Traveler that has worked for about five years. Without writing a book, This summer it failed and I had to deal with Winegard Customer Support. From this experience, I would Never buy this product again. I don't know how they manage to stay in business with the way they treat their customers. Do a search on this forum and you will see I'm not alone in this opinion.
There is an option called RF Mogul, see link below. I reccomend you talk to them before making any decisions. A couple of long time Winegard installers have told me they refuse to sell their product any longer and have turned to RF Mogul.

Larry:
I had no problem removing my old KVH and installing the Trav'ler. The problem I had, is keeping it working. I installed the dish in November of last year. Started having problems in May of this year and have been trying to get the unit working with Winegard customer service since then. Finally was requested to send the unit back before Labor Day. Just received a new unit today, so we'll see how (if) it works.
Would I buy another Winegard product? Probably not.
Good luck.
Mike

I have a traveler mounted on the roof of my 2006 Diplomat. Haven't had any problems, but I can't confirm the structural difference between your 2001 and my 2006

Trav'ler Install
Winegard makes a mounting plate for thin roofs that spreads the load over a large area. Use caulking between that and the roof and between the plate and the Trav'ler and screw everything down.

Did you reinforce the roof? Which location on the roof did you install the trav'ler? It sounds to me that it wouldn't hurt to put a plate in as timex did.

Hi ! Welcome to IRV2! We're sure glad you joined the gang!
Don't know about the Trav'ler! Keep her between the ditches!
Good luck, happy trails, and God bless!

In MHO if you can walk on your roof, you should be able to install the antenna with the baseplate. Weight is ~60 lbs and when stowed for travel presents a smaller sail area than your AC unit. Ideally try to pick up a cross member with a couple fasteners.

Larry
I made my own mounting plate that looks like winegards out of .090 aluminum. I took off my old dome dish that was in front of the front air conditioner and mounted the plate and Trav'ler there. I ran a bead of caulk all the way around the outsides and a lot of beads across the center. I stood on the plate when I gently screwed it down making sure to screw through the caulking. Then mounted the dish screwing through the plate and roof.
