We winter in East Texas and it does get cold here at times, so I'm looking for ways to insulate the windshield. Does anyone have any experience with any type of rigid foam insulation that would be easy to install in-between the curtains and the glass?

Or other thoughts?

In a perfect world this would be opaque, light weight, easy to install and remove, and inexpensive.

Where in East TX?? ...we are thinking of buying a home somewhere in East TX, anywhere in a box from Carthage to Canton to Corsicana to Nacogdoches ...haven't quite figured out exactly where we want to be as yet...

Does anyone have experience to indicated that with insulation like this the glass would not sweat?? ...if it DOES sweat and it is enclosed behind insulation, that could cause problems...

Hey, Elkhart Jim has his place for sale...right out of Palestine. It does have a fair amount of acreage with it.

Also, unless you can completely seal the glass around the edges and have a sealed vapor barrier, you will probably get some condensation on the glass. One thing that would help is to use an exterior insulation blanket over the windshield.

On a class C we had, I took one of the vinyl windshield covers and backed it with a layer of the Reflectix and then layer of 3/8" batt insulation in the center and sealed the edges with aluminum foil tape. The trick is to keep the glass from getting so cold that it is below the dew point of the air in the coach. If the glass surface is too cold, the moisture in the air will condense on the cold surface.

The only other alternate is to lower the dew point of the air (reduce the moisture content of the air) in the coach with a dehumidifier.

Paul, We both work in the Tyler area during the winter. So we are staying on Lake Palestine just south of town. This area has the best medical, shopping, medium size town around the area.

Indeed it does!! ...we arrived at Carthage last year a couple days before the big storm. And later spent a month in Tyler. This year we plan to spend some tome in Nacogdoches, Gun Barrel City, and maybe Palestine. Don't know that we want much acreage, but sure would be nice to find a place with lots of elbow room and an RV cover in place!!
