how to I get the blade to apply more downforce on window.

Thanks.

I had a similar issue with the wipers on my Trek. Guaranty RV in Junction City Oregon installed a set of strong tensioners that simply clipped on the base of the wiper and added a considerable force to the pressure of the blade on the glass. I forget what Guaranty called these things but most any RV repair shop should know about them. They did function as desired.l... BUT.... the other end of them put so much pressure on the plastic covers at the base of my wiper blade mechanisms that it started to crack them... so I ended up removing them and just do without. Strangely enough, I don't see the blades moving as much as they used to when driving into strong winds or passing trucks now.

I agree, the wipers suck. The spring isn't up to the job.

I had a recall on my 07 Diplomat to replace the windshield wiper assembly (complete assembly including motors). Before this was done I had problems with wind lifting the wiper blades. The complete new assembly has larger shafts and is much stronger and they actually had to make the wiper arm holes in the MH larger to fit in the new assembly.

Bottom line is that the wind is no problem now and it seams that the new larger assembly was the ticket.

Tiffin has problems with the wipers on their rigs also so don't feel alone. It seems like the tall flat one piece windshields on todays rigs tend to create a lot of lifting effect from the wind and passing trucks. In general, most of the complaints are about them lifting at higher speeds and when trucks go by on two lane roads.

One suggested repair that has worked for some is to replace the blade with something smaller. I personally havn't done this yet, as I don't need new blades yet, but when I do, I may downsize. The popular change is go from 32" blades to 28" ones. That two inches smaller on each end have no bearing on the portion of the window that the driver views through, but it does increase the pressure per inch of blade that is remaining.

The smaller (shorter) blade works well. Mine came with the shorter blade and I thought it odd at the time. Just looked too small. After 1 1/2 years of using it I have never been disappointed with performance. There is zero lift and plenty of clear area to view through.

And the very best thing about switching to 28" blades is that they're available everywhere. I gave up trying to find refills for my 33 inchers. I would not pay the price for the entire blade. I did have to increase the size of the hole in the blade to fit the arm. Big whoop! Saved some bucks.

Many of the Monacos had the wiper blade lift problem. I believe Robin_M and Sixpack did the first installs to make sure the fix worked before Monaco issued a recall for the problem. I do not think we have had any problems since the fix was done...

SacsTC thinks he found the 32" blades at Napa Auto Parts. We will have them here at the house tomorrow. I will make sure we post the part number and the cost if they are the right blades...

MM,
That would be great. The 32" blades are way overpriced from CW and other sources. I'm about to go to 28" blades due to availability and cost. I recently increased the wiper arm length to increase vertical visibility and 28" would put me about where stock is, maybe an inch or so higher on the top of the sweep. Seems like the only way to decrease chattering of the 32" blade is to change them out on a regular basis. I replaced the blades on the wifes BMW and salvaged the anti sail wings and installed them on the mh blades which helped a little. Have not had the severe lifting others have experienced but the chattering is driving me crazy. To be sure the spring tension on the stock arm is horrible but worried about the load spring helpers place on the motor.

Let us know if NAPA comes up with a reasonably price blade.

Find some wiper blade assemblies that have holes in the metal frame that hold the blades, this will alleviate the aero lift that is being created, or get out your trusty Makita and drill so vent holes in your existing wiper blade assemblies. Tru-Vision makes wiper assemblies that are vented.

Yeah, these are like the ones that Guaranty put on my 32"ers, except mine were rubber coated with tool dip. The bottom end put so much pressure on the plastic cover on the base of my wipers that it started to mash and crack them so I ended up taking them off.

When the rubber on my 32 inch blades starts to deteriorate next time I am replacing them with 28" units..... I am tired of paying high price for entire units when the rubber is all that needs be replaced... and 28" refills are available.
