Greetings All: We have purchased a new-to-us 2001 Holiday Rambler Ambassador. While cleaning out the battery box I found a wire with a 7.5 amp fuse that was not connected to the coach or house battery. Looks like it might connect to the house battery.

Does anyone know where this wire goes? I've tried tracing into the coach, but not much luck. Would sure appreciate the advise.

bdixon2297526...
I see we had a couple of our sharpshooters on the forum tonight...
We might get lucky enough that Diplomat Don or DignBubbs will see this and can answer...and if not... then someone should be able to respond tomorrow!

By the way... great job with the photo post! Glad you found the instructions helpful!

bdixon...check to see if it runs back to your trailer hitch wiring harness. A lot of people ran a similar wire to their tow cars to charge their batteries while they were in tow..

If not, you're going to have to crawl under and chase it down..... a couple of other possibilities:

-solar panel charge
-engine battery charger when coach is plugged into shore power

I think he used the wire and fuse to charge the vehicle battery when parked. He would hook the wire to the house battery when parked and with 50 or 30 amp service he would charge the batterys. .. Most people buy a eco start or trickle charger to do this. All you need is to hook the batteries together. BUT.. You have to remember to remove it before you leave. The vehicle alternator will not charge all the batteries.

Same 7.5amp fused wire on my 2001 Dip goes to the Hot post on the emergency start solenoid. Follow the heavy battery cable from the positive post on your "House" batteries (6V). There are two cables on that post. One goes supply 12 VDC to the coach. The other goes to the emergency start solenoid on the wall of the battery compartment. Where the cable attaches to the solenoid is where my fused wire attaches.

Hope this helps you.

Roland may be on to something. Since the suspect wire and sheath is included in the bundle above it I would follow his hint. The other responses are also very possible and if Roland's suggestion does not work out try them. You might also see if the wire has some sort or numbering or description on it. Most of the Monaco wiring is white and is typically identified. The suspect wire may be spliced into factory wiring.

Just for the record -- my schematic for an '01 Dip shows a 7.5 amp fused lead going from the positive terminal of the coach battery bank to the dash radio to support the volatile memory.

Green lights and soft breezes,

Roland
