Wood Laminate Flooring Install

Howdie all,

My wife and I are considering having wood laminate flooring installed in our 06 Knight. Does anyone have any recommended places near the Monaco Service Centers in Harrisburg, Oregon? We're looking to replace the existing carpet and laminate flooring from the kitchen forward (less the slides).

Second question is, have any of you done this conversion before and if so, how much moola am I looking at?

We have a 2008 Diplomat with all wood laminate flooring except for the slides. The roadside slide is scratching the floor because it slides along the floor, whereas the curb side or kitchen slide rolls on a set or rollers and does not scratch the floor. Because of the design there is nothing they can do to correct the problem. I would consider a tile floor, but definately not wood laminate!

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately, my wife and I are not big fans of tile....but you have raised a good point. That little tidbit of info definitely does make wonder if I will have issues.

You might check on RVNet forum. I saw a post by someone which explained how to minimize if not eliminate the problem. I've been thinking about installing bamboo flooring to replace the carpet. I also considered extending the tile but 3 tile guys said it would be almost impossible to match the existing and they recommended pulling out the existing tile and starting all over. Lots of $$. Bamboo might work though. Scratching may not show as badly as some other wood,

I will be curious as to what you find out. We have talked briefly about cutting the tile across to keep it in the kitchen...but to put wood flooring in the "living area". We have 2 slides in that area...so I will be curious as to what you figure out and how it works!

Mine came with wood from the factory in the kitchen and bath and hall I wish it was in living area. It has held up well no markes from the slides or the dogs and is a lot warmer than the tile in our old one.

I've called a couple of place around Coburg, so far I've received a rough estimate of around $7k. That just seems way expensive for replacing the main floor and not touching the slides or the rear of the coach. I was thinking it would cost around $3k.....maybe I will attempt this myself.

We replaced the carpet in our 06 Endeavor 40ft PAQ last May. We replaced the front carpet with tile except on the curb slide and the area under the slide. So the slide rolls on carpet not tile. We did this because we already had tile in the kitchen area and wanted the front tile to line up with the existing tile. We also replace all the original carpert with a berber carpet. The total cost was about $5,600 including materials. The work was done by Countryside Interiors in Junction City OR.

Sixpack98, DON'T put bamboo in your coach. I have it in my stick house, and hate it. Sure it is pretty, but is much softer than other hardwoods and dents very easily. Would never have it again.

Bubz, even $3k would be high. Find yourself a flooring installer. Most work for the companies that sell flooring, but are private contracters. Price your flooring, then price the labor. Should be able to get it done for under $1K.

I have a large kitchen in my stick house that I put in laminate over the linoleum. It took me one weekend to do the entire floor and then another weekend to do all the moulding, etc. It was easy and anyone charging that much is gouging. I'm planning on doing my camper this summer. It's very easy and, unless you get really expensive stuff, you should be able to buy everything you need for <$1000. Good luck.

I've thought about that, but am concerned by the slides and the fact that the original laminate-tile flooring is glued down to the sub-floor. Custom Coach Works in Monroe, OR quoted me about $2500 for materials and labor...which I thought wasn't that bad of a price.
