While talking to Gary at MCC Tech Support this am he told me that there is a kit available that allows charging the chassis batteries along with the house batteries. This kit is for coaches built before the end of the '07 model year. The part numbers for the relay and harness is:

harness 252-003
relay 256-078

The harness does connect to the plug discussed in earlier posts. Since I have installed the Trik-L Start this kit is not any use to me.

I wonder if this kit consists of essentially what is installed on Drifter's coach.

Rob,
It could very well be. Gary did say that the kit was made by Bird. The harness connects to the "big box) and runs to a "vendor supplied" bi-directional device that charges the chassis batts from the house batts but will not allow the chassis batts charge the house batts or run down the house batts.
Something interesting Gary told me. He said the 2009 coaches are redesigned again. Those electrical guys at MCC have been busy. I'm amazed how clean the FRB is on the '08's, a lot of clutter has been eliminated. Makes me more than a little envious. I noticed that there was a lot of surface mount components on the main board. I sure hope MCC has plenty of electrical protection (surge and spike) built in or reliability will be a huge issue.

Hi Mark,

BIRD is an acronym, which stands for "Bi-directional Isolator Relay Delay". The module is made by Intelletic - the same company that makes the IRD modules installed on our large board in the FRB (and plugged into the same socket on the board). It's function is to activate the main isolator relay (in certain circumstanes and after a delay) which combines the banks for the purpose of charging one or the other.

Changed again for 2009, huh? Man those electrical design guys HAVE been very busy, as you say. From what I can tell by looking at Drifter's pix, 2007 and 2008 are pretty much the same. As you know, all the circuits in the lower part of the bay changed on 2007 models. (Not sure, but I don't think they did much with the big board at that time.)

Has anyone installed the BIRD on their 07 Endeavor? Did the main relay in the battery bay need to be changed to a larger one as after a while the orginal relay will burn up? Elkhart is telling me this and it needs to be changed? My current relay is a Thombetta 114-1211-010, is the 08 a different one?

Just a quick question related to alan1's question about replacing the relay with a larger one. Why not parallel the relay with another one there fore dividing current between both relays and prolonging their useful life?
