Xantrex SW2012/3012 Series PSW Inverters

Anyone have any experience with either of these PSW inverters. The original Freedom 458-Combi MSW Inverter has apparently bit the dust. Since I'm in the process of having to also replace the old No-Cold with a house hold type thought I would "bit the bullet" and go with a PSW Inverter-Charger. I did a query but didn't see any posts speaking to these units. Thanks for any assistance you may be able to provide.

I installed a Xantrex SW3012 a couple of years ago. Not sure what I can offer other than it was an easy swap out of my old Xantrex Freedom 458. The 458 uses a phone cable to connect to the control panel where the 3012 uses a network cable. Took me a long time to run the new cable but after found out that Xantrex makes an adapter!!! The 3012 is slightly larger than the Freedom so it was a tighter fit in the compartment. Check the dimensions of where you are putting it.

It's worked great for me.

Best place to get the Magnum 2812 for $1587.60
http://www.imarineusa.com/magnumener...arger-1-2.aspx
controller $145.50
http://www.imarineusa.com/magnumener...control-1.aspx
To see the price add to cart

If you have the Xantrex 458 Freedom like I had no need to run a new patch line. The Xantrex used a 6 wire feed and the Magnum uses 4 wire feed. They cut the ends off and dropped a wire on each side and installed new phone line ends. This save a few hours of install time $$$$$

Are you selling your Xantrex? Maybe I could use the charger in it for my cottage.

kidoo, if the repair is not excessive, I am going to use it in another application. Have a Nephew who likes to play/enjoys the challenge. According to a Xantrex Dealer I spoke with, it is more than likely the power transistors. Which my Nephew can easily replace.

KJackson, do you have any idea whether or not the phone line adapter to the cable will work if I decide to go with the automatic generator start switch? or do I need to call Xantrex Tech line? Thanks, David.

I don't have the genstart option. My GUESS is that it would work, but I'd call Xantrex. I had to call them once and they were very helpful.

Oh, another small item. The 3012 draws 4 amps while inverting. The old 458 I think it was more like 2 amps?

Have you considered installing a smaller dedicated inverter for the new refrig?

I have and am still considering it. But, w/o a dedicated space for batteries, etc. that would add a lot of extra work. Have to remember that my existing 458 inverter is dead and has to be replaced. I had thought about purchasing 2 units(another 458/2000 watt and a smaller unit for the fridge) thereby using the smaller inverter for the fridge and pull from the existing battery bank(4-6 Volt) using separate battery cables, but am not sure if the charger by the main inverter/charger would interfere with the operation of the dedicated fridge inverter. I suppose I can pose that question to a Xantrex Tech.

A few years ago I replaced my 458 with the 3012. I think its a good unit but the remote control panel is/was very difficult to understand. I asked the installer to run through the options on the remote pad and his struggle to make sense of it was obvious.

I sold that motor home 4 years ago (for other reasons).

No problem, rare are people who work on these, especially on the card, they check it out and replace the assembly for $600 plus.

Talk with Xantrex Tech about gen start with old 458 units. They said gen start option was only available on the SW 2012 and 3012 units with the associated newer control panel. So, I'm back to square one..having to make a decision if I really need that option. Since I need two inverters if I go the dedicated inverter route, my cost will be about the same as using the SW3012 single inverter/charger. And I did get the part no. for the 4 wire adapter that would eliminate the need to run the new cable. And they said it would still function as designed, if anyone might be interested.

Would you please give us the part # for the 4 wire adapter? Thanks in advance.

Sorry about that. I intended to list it, but I suppose I had a Senior moment. The part number is 808-9010. When you query it on Amazon or some other site it helps to put something like "Xantrex 808-9010 Adapter", in the search line. I finally have all of the "stuff" on order so I hope in a couple of weeks I will have the fridge in and the new inverter charger working. Several vendors show/have the adapters for sale from $15+shipping to $30 w/free shipping. Good luck. David
