The one thing that I am hearing (reading then hearing) is that everyone is going to load to the Max. If you are loading the Max., pushing the limits of your fifth wheel, then you are going to be having more issues than what a 3/4 ton pickup can handle. Excel along with other SOB trailers (some other brand), purchase axles from the axle companies to match the weight ratings that they are establishing for their trailers. Now Excel does take it up a notch and increases brake sizes, as well as ratings to the axles. But by Maxing out the trailer, you are going to start to see inside tire wear, due to the lose of the camber built into the Axle. Next is going to bearing issues, (either with regular bearing or Never-lube.) We should reconcider how much of our treasures we are waiting to keep with us. Mother always said "You don't have to keep all your eggs in one basket",(Rent storage somewhere). Anyway it has been nice to discuss the issues of a 3/4 ton style pickup, but again Almost fully loaded or not, I still feel that you can be very comfortable pulling a Excel 30' with this style pickup, all options involve. Thanks for the rebuttal, it has been interesting.

It is not necessary to load to the max to hit 3000 pounds pin weight. With full fresh water, empty gray and black, normal (for a 26 ft Avion, moved over to the RT) load for non-full timing we hit 3000 pin weight. Trailer weight was about 13400. Close to 23% on the pin. If you buy an Excel, expect heavy. We are under on everything but rear axle weight, but not by much. Dually 1 ton minimum if you are full timing. Only things we had in storage were empty boxes, tool box and a folding table; besides the hoses, power cables, etc that came with it. I am not sure what we can do to move weight further back (maybe add 1000 pounds of lead to the rear? ) Excels MAY be balanced but I wish I had weighed the thing before it had anything in it to see what the real story was.
