I might have a problem with my Apollo. Actually, my problem is with the hood. . .If I turn the light and/or fan on, then open the door to the microwave, the rangelight/fan turn off. As soon as I close the microwave door, the fan/light turn on again.

Am I the only one with this bug?? (I mean feature!!) I wonder if something is mis-wired in the microwave hood??

How does yours work??

Doug

We have the same " BUG " on our Apollo 1/2 time oven. We have always wondered about that fan/light feature, "very strange " but I guess that the way it works..not to worry I guess.

Unfortunately, I think that's the norm for this make of microwave. Our Apollo did the same thing.

Our Appolo 1/2 time just recently had a failure with the start button internal spring breaking. SC does not work on these appliances and told me to contact sears. When a sears repair person arrived he told me I had to remove the MW unit so he could work on it. Another call to SC helped me through the process to remove it---was quite easy once I learned how it was installed. The key was taking off the wood panel and then remove long bolts that horizontally attached the unit to another heavy frame board. The spring was ordered---not cheap by any means---and now the repair can be completed. Was informed that this failure is one of high incidence. Maverik

Mav,

Thanks for the update. Just one more Apollo story. I don't have to worry about mine, cause it's on the chopping block. One more peep out of it and its history. I've had it out 4 times for known product concerns and that is enough for me! Tom

On another forum, the Apollos were referred to as "dime store microwaves" and having owned one I can understand why However, I did buy another "dime store brand" for our TV "Semi-Suite" as we weren't looking for anymore than a basic microwave.

Well, the day has come....the Apollo died today. It kicks the circuit breaker every time when I push the door release to open.

Doing some preliminary checking on the internet and to get an over the range compact microwave only (24" width) is quite expensive at about $300.00. It gets expensive when you get the OTR model as it has the light, vent and mounts for the cabinet. Without that they are about $100.00.

If anybody has any better info on this please let me know. I may have to go to FL and clean toilets and pull weeds if this stuff keeps up!

Tom,

Are 26" ones any cheaper?? I got the sabre saw out this morning to cut the tube we bought at Home Depot last night (for the sewer hose)

Between my Sabre saw and some hammers, we can make any size microwave fit in your rig!!

Was great meeting you last night!

Good to meet you and Jutta too. We did have fun, chatting it up. I sure enjoyed seeing that custom F550. That thing would pass all but a gas station!

As you may remember, modifying the mounting area doesn't seem viable on my rear kitchen FLR. And I don't want to just set a portable unit on the counter as a permanent situation.

Keep the suggestion a comin' in! Thanks, Tom

Tom,
I can feel your frustration -- you and your Apollo have had an long and intimate relationship: "Thanks for the update. Just one more Apollo story. I don't have to worry about mine, cause it's on the chopping block. One more peep out of it and its history. I've had it out 4 times for known product concerns and that is enough for me! Tom" I would check with Jack, given the problems you've experienced with the Apollo. As a last resort, get the old and have a fitting ceremony!

Thanks Chief,

But I MAY have to retract my statement....just one more chance! I checked with Apollo this AM and they told me I need a micro switch which cost $30.00 shipped. Of course, it has to come down and apart as usual. I'm getting concerned that the screws are wearing thin!

Just think of it this way....me working on the micro keeps me from pestering you guys! Everyone needs a little rest now and then.

I'll update you on my findings...etc.

Tom,

Don't hesitate to call if you need an extra hand with the removal and replacement of the Apollo while Donna is away.

Doug
