The original Shurflo Extreme Sensor 5.7 was installed in a nearly inaccessible location requiring tortuous body contortions to make the frequent adjustments that it required. Finally, after monkeying with it, and its jack hammering, for 4 years, I could no longer coax it to cease cycliing. At the same time it began making very high pitched sounds at the frequency of the pumps cycle rate. It was kaput and Shurflo no longer sells repair kits for the original version of the Extreme5.7. So with a clear conscious that II had done my utmost but could not repair the pump anymore, I bought an Aquajet RV Variable Speed Pump, 5.3 gpm from Rick at the rvWaterFilterstore.com.

RV Water Filter Store: Standard Filter Canisters for Whole RV

To re-locate the Aquajet inRV a more accessible spot, I extended the original inlet and outlet water lines. I put a very large loop in the oulet side to absorb vibration. I mounted the pump on a 2x6very wood block which, in turn, I mounted on a closes cell foam pad.

In the process I noticed that the winterizing by_pass valve was slightly defective. While it rarely leaked a few drops of water, it allowed a regular trickle of air bubbles into the system. These aair bubbles were a significant source of vibration for the Shurflo and also for the Aquajet. Therefore, to be fair, I cannot totally blame the jack hammering on the Shurflo.

I replaced the valve and "T" fitting with a more substantial ball valve. I extended the line so that it reaches the ground. Now I can fill a 5 gallon bucket with winter rv antifreeze and pump it from the bucket in one shot, instead of going gallon by gallon.

In addition I noticed that even the slightest vibration was transmitted through the platic pex lines that, in turn, vibrated/slapped against the rear of the shower enclosure and greatlyy amplified the vibration. Foam pipe insulation was installed around those pipes throught the rea access to the shower fixtures.

Now, for the first time in thethe 4 years since I've had my Excel, I can honestly say that my water pump is virtually silent. I can only hear it at maximum output when three fixtures are fully open. And then it is a satisfying hum, no vibration and no hammering. And, even with multiple faucets open, the Aquajet senses the demand and delivers a steong flow to all.

Thanks for sharing and explaining your setup. I've had the 5.7 in our first rig and had no problems for 4 years. (people think I'm lying)

On our new rig we have the old 2088 Shurflo (standard) that hammered like a jack hammer. I shared with PI that if they only would use very cheap 1/2 water insulation for both the intake and pressure water pipe that contacts the floor.......it makes the pump noise to a minimum. So I did that on my new one with great improvement. Also added a small accumlator. I can't hear it run in the kitchen. I think if I had to replace the pump....I'd try the new replacement for the 2088 which is the "Revolution". It has 4 chambers and is many decibals quiter and only a few bucks more than the 2088. Also just a small improvement of GPM over the 2088. I think for the dollar amt. and as seldom that we use the pump it's the best bang for the buck. rockin'

The jack hammer of the Shurflo 5.7, plus, its need for frequent pressure screw adjustment over the past 4 years caused me to vote with my wallet and try the Aquajet RV 5.3 gpm.

To be fair my Shurflo Exteme Sensor 5.7 provided good water flow. And the jackhammering would subside on our 2nd day boondocking after refilling the tank. Still I tried everything to purge the system of air including routinely draining the water heater and opening all of the faucets before refilling the fresh water tank.

Finally while installing the new Aquajet RV pump, I discovered that a faulty winterizng bypass valve was passing a steady trickle of air into the systrem before the input to the pump.
Once in awhile I'd feel a little dampness under the winterizing valve and "T" and I kept an old plastic lid under it to catch the occasioanal, random drip of seepage. Once I added the clear flex pipe extension on the input while installing the Aquajet, I coulsd see a steady flow of air bubbles going into the pump and I was able to trace it to the winterizing valve and "T".

Even with the new pump this air seepage caused significant chatter/vibration that the Pex is so good about transmitting throughout the rig. Once I eliminated that air seepage, the Aquajet RV pump ran virtully vibration free, except the humming vibration of any electric motor, no chatter at all.

Over the years I have probably installed 25 yards of foam pipe insulation around the Pex pipes that I could reach throughout the entire to dampen the vibration jackhammering. As mentioned, the loudest source of jackhammering noise was the result of the Pex piping slapping the back shell of the shower enclosure which amplified it in a drum-like effect.

Now I cannot hear the Aquajet pump running at all when I am in the kitchen. And I have to listen very closely to hear it's low hum when standing directly above it in the bathroom. Only when I open all the fauctes and the pump is running art full speed can it be heard clearly, and it is still a medium pitch hum versus the louder growl of the Shurflo 5.7, even when it was running at its smoothest.

In my www research for an alternative to the Shurflo Extreme Sensor 5.7, the replacement Shurflo Revolution and Shurflo 2088 appeared to have good user feedback.

The Aquajet RV variable speed was the first "sensor" type pump originally marketed about 14 years ago. It appears to have mastered the sensor system with variable speed and flow according to the demand. It also has excellent feedback for durability.

This is in stark contrast to the Shurflo 5.7 Extreme Sensor which is the subject of hundreds of problem message postings at seeminly every rv forum on the www.

I hope myu high praise hasn't jinxed me... so far so good.. time will tell.
