One of my basement door gas springs [struts] has weakened to the point that I want to replace it. Found 'em on Amazon [naturally]. Original struts are rated at 40 pounds. The ones on Amazon are rated at 60 pounds.

Do you think I can mix the 40 and 60 on the same door? Or will the stronger spring push the door up faster, thereby possibly warping the door?

If NG, I can buy a pair of 60s and replace 'em both, then hold onto the good 40 for the other door. They only cost $10 each with free shipping.

Oh for goodness sake Bruce.....doesn't Clancy need a bath or something???

Common sense would tell me not to mix the gas struts, especially with that much difference in pressure. There are so many websites with probably the correct strut. Many good auto parts stores have them in stock. Just take one to match up. You might be able to use the 60 lbs. but I would worry about the door hitting you in the jaw as it starts to open up if it slipped out of your hands. (IE the door is wet from rain and it gets way from you). My thoughts, that's all. rockin'

Funny you should say that. I notice the Closing door most often when I give Clancy a bath with the utility sprayer.

Thanks for the advice. I shall proceed.

X2......in fact I think back in those days PI was using this company for some of their applications. I have found some odd configurations available at this company. Customer service was good.

On the body of the strut there should the manufacture info. part number and D.O.M. (date code) A website should also be on it. Git R Dun! rockin'

Bruce,

Go with the same lb. lift strut. Otherwise you might split the wood frame around the door that the strut attaches to. I had that happen to my side door on the back of the Wild Cargo and it was the factory strut. It had to happen after the warrenty run out so I won't blame Peterson Ind for that.
