Does anyone have suggestions on replacement hardware for the screen door latch and closet door catch?
The screen door latch does not always shut well, which my dog appreciates. I’m considering adding a spring or two so the door closes. But this will not necessarily hold the door closed if he pushes on it.
As you can see, the sliding door plastic catch broke. Rather than replace it with a similar flimsy catch, can you suggest a better alternative?
Broken
Intact with door
Thanks.

Yo Bruce....are you getting good with the photo deal!!! You've come a long way!
Regarding the screen door latch situation. We use screen door springs to close the screen (CW). Gotta be careful cause most folks aren't use to it and let the door slam close. We use the standard latches and just tweak the adjustment from time to time. Not a perfect deal. I know someone that removed the latch mechanism and used a strong magnetic setup......I don't remember the exact layout, but I think he glued/epoxied them on. One for the close side and one for the open side to the door.
Regarding the closet latches...we have not had a problem with ours....but they are a bit sharp on the edges if you inadvertently run you hand into them.

Bruce,
One thing we do to reduce use of the closet latch is to reverse the door positions when we setup. Thay way we open and close the doors without latching them when parked. Then when we are moving, we latch the doors. It just minimizes wear & tear on the latch and prevents cuts from the sharp edges. Just in case, I do carry a spare set of latches.

Tim,
We do the same thing on the closet doors, I didn't mention it as I just "thought" (assume) that everyone did that automatically. Shame on me! That would be a pain if you didn't..... with a lot of locking and unlocking.
Just an afterthought too, If a person had forgot to lock the closet door when you traveled and it was opened quite a ways, when you went around a corner that door could close into the lock pretty hard and cause "premature failure". No one would admit that .....would they Bruce???

Thanks MB,
Yeah, I usually say what other folks think and sometimes it gets me into trouble from time to time....well most of the time!!!
There were some folks (like George Carlin) that were real good at it and made a living doing it!!! I'll never forget him describing the fancy black tie affair at his home where everyone was having cocktails while watching his dog lick "himself" in the living room. No one talks about it, but you can envison this scene and it is funny!!!
Are we "off topic" yet? Mama....he made me do it. Back on topic...

Closet latch
Yeah I slide the doors to the other side when parked.
Personally I blame DW, what with all the clothing she has on her side, i.e. the side that failed. After all, she doesn't read this forum too often.
Guess I'll call PI for a replacement.
Door catch
I remember someone describing a mag catch at the base of the door. You could bump open the door with your toe when carrying a tray out. But I figure you'd wind up with an opening along the edge of the door the thickness of the two parts of the magnet, and might warp the door by pushing on one corner.
I'll probably buy that screen door spring set from CW next time I get there. The kit costs $5, but S&H costs $17.

I am trying to imagine bumping the door with ones toe. How big of a magnet? I sure wouldn’t want to use steel toed shoes, and I wonder if it would work if you had a pin in you’re toe, but I can see the advantage of this if you are hammer toed….one could really toe nail it. Being pigeon toed might a challenge,
but athletes’ foot would help and if one can open new doors with toes then we could knock kneed! Post a photo of that magnetic door.

Gosh...I don't know where to start with this... " dogs and personal grooming" or should I start with " a wife who actually gives a spouse a full half of the closet" or someone who might have a " foot fetish"??

Good Lord. I can understand how HPD would get carried away with toe references. As a fifth wheel owner, he obviously has mixed feelings about toeds.
But Mama. You should set an example. Particularly with two dogs as your avatar. Show some respect!
Just for the record, we chose an Australian Terrier because they have weak feet.
You can see right here that we're measuring him for orthopedics. It's not nice to make fun of the handicapped!

BTW, Rockin' kindly offered to pick up the door springs for me from his local CW.
I take back everything I should have said about him in the past.
Tho I reserve my rights for future comments.
