Southbound on I-75 just crossed over into KY and BOOM, left rear on the fiver lets go. No warning from the Pressure Pro at all. I started the day with 108 in the tire. And 2 hours into the trip it was 127. No warning. It just blew. These are the GY 614's mfg'd in June of 2004. Guess I should have changed them out but I was trying to make it 5 years. Guess a new set in June of 2008 would have been better!
Waited 17 minutes on hold for a GoodSam Road Service operator to answer. But when she got on the line, she was very professional. She declared the Service Truck would be here in less than 90 minutes. We are 60 minutes into that now, I'll report back later on how that goes. This is wierd to be sitting by the side of the interstate playing on the internet! Ain't technology wonderful?
More later. Anybody know any good jokes? Just kiddin. Been hauling a fiver for over 60,000 miles and this is my only my second flat. tomorrow, this won't even be a bump in the road!!

Virg,
Just what you need right now...razzing by the 3 Stooges!
Can't believe you'd be riding on 614s that are 4 years old. Mine got a fresh set on their 3rd birthday. Especially with a misproportioned- weight-wise CLO. Don't mess around replace all of them with closely matched date codes. NOW you cheapskate. I don't want anything to happen to Miss Jo or my favorite Swissy pup!!
On edit: Or that scoot you just found out you willed to me!
Seriously, glad you're OK.

Long report later. We are safe and in the Lexington KY Horse Pk campground. I'm shopping for tires this morning. When you bought, how old were the date codes on your new tires?

Would you be better off with the Michelin tires or somebody mentioned to me last night about using truck tires instead of trailer tires. I haven't investigated the pros and cons of using truck tires.

Virg,
Hope your only damage was the tire. Did your Pressure Pro alarm after the blow out? I changed out my tires back in July. They were 4 years 3 months old. I was going to wait until this winter and do them down south but I found them cheaper here at home. The dates on the new ones run 4 months apart with the oldest one 8 months old back in July. Good Luck on the new ones.
Paul

I lost 2 each 2004-vintage G614s in 2007, one in July and one in October. Goodyear replaced the first and, after the 2nd failure, replaced the remaining 3 along with taking care of over $2K damage to the 5th wheel from the 2nd failure.
They are assuring me that my "new" G614s benefit from an improvement made subsequent to the 2004 vintage tires. Maybe, but I'm still about half puckered up waiting to hear that BANG every time we're on the road. One more failure and the G614s are outta here - I'll go to a 17.5" wheel/tire combo!

Howdy!
You can file a claim with Goodyear for tire and damage. You must have the tire! It has to be returned to Goodyear for inspection.
We just had one tire blowout in Monument, CO and another in Gladewater, TX. Contacted Goodyear and they will arrange the tires to be shipped back to them.
If the road service took the tire, I would contacted them to make sure the did not dispose of the tire. We had to do this on our first tire problem because known one told us about the process.
This will be our fourth claim and Goodyear has paid on everyone for all tire and damages.

Virg,
My replacement 614s we're almost 6 months old and all the same date code. We got them "on sale" from Goodyear for $1162.00 out the door. Don't know for sure, but we don't plan to be in ol' Journey another 3 years so didn't want to upgrade wheels and tires.
Larry G,
Unfortunately, Michelin does make a tire in our size and rating. Gotta go up to 17.5" or down to an E rating. Our tires are listed as LT (light truck). Many lighter rated tires are ST (trailer).
Thanks for the well wishes, buddy. rockin'

Rusty, you and I totally and absolutely agree on something.
Ok here is the report. I called GoodSam Roadside Assistance dispatcher at about 4:00pm Sunday afternoon and waited on hold with elevator music for about 18 minutes for them to answer. Doing so, I was a little stressed sitting on the side of Interstate 75 with traffic flying by at 60 or 65mph. It was not a fun wait. I was off on the shoulder with the roadside tires just on the edge of the emergency lane so we were actually safe, it just felt bad.
When the GoodSam dispatcher answered, she was quick and efficient. Within 10 minutes she called back with the name of tire service she has dispatched and told me they would be the in 90 monutes, that was at about 4:30. At 6:12pm the tire dude showed up. Changed my tire and I was rolling again at 6:30pm.
Now the tire. When the tire blew, it blew off the tread as if it was a recap. I saw the "cap" blow out the side just after the "BOOM"! I have the carcass and will call the Goodyear folks and see what they will do.
Almost all of the tire stores in Lexington, KY are owned by the same company and use the same warehouse. The best date they have (they say) is 4407 which means they are already a year old. So, I am buying only one and am going to shop for a new set down in Atlanta later this week.
PS customer service here is terrible! If I got started on it, Rusty or somebody would be sending me PM's. Just a take or leave it attitude. I called twice and finally had to drive over to the store to get the date codes.
Awful, just awful but I need one tire just to feel OK about moving again. Such is life.

Sounds like an good idea Virg, When you get to "civilation" again, might put the new tire on the ground you are now buying and put it on the spare and get 4 new ones on the ground. Don't know how long you're planning to keep yours though. SirKnowAllTheTires!
Never fails...there is always something to spend our little nest egg on. I can't believe some people claim they live this life on $50,000 a year.

You might as well spend your little nest egg before someone in Washington decides to take it from you.
