I think one should realize to that boards like this are going to generate mostly the problems we have with our rigs as thats what we are concerned with most of the time in hopes of fixing something we cant on our own or to help the next guy so plan on it and expect it. I for one could post many things that I see as exceptional about my rig but I dont in large part because I dont have time and my concerns are of things that dont work right. Its sort of like the nightly news how often do they report on all the good news in the world not very and so it is with this board. That said if someone gains knowledge that sways there decison on a Excel purchase I feel the board has succeded in its job of sharing information weather I agree with it or not.

Just wanted to say that I have had one type of an rv or another for most of my adult years.
EXCEL has been the best I have found for both dealer support and quality of product.
A lot o sob companys dont even know you after you write the check.
I have not had any work done at the factory because I have not had any problems with my unit, but do know a lot of people who have had work done and most are very happy with the way they are treated,
I have never been treated as good by a dealer as my EXCEL dealer always willing to help or advise.

Well said Gary! One of the many things Donna and I like about you and Pat is your so positive and upbeat about everything in life!
Now when are you gonna let me have that fancy new truck to pull my rig around?
We want you to post more often to keep this forum a great big happy place! Thanks, Tom

g&p, From what I see you are one of the few that have had no problems on your Excel ie no problems no reason to post unless you want to help someone else who is not so fortunate with there rig wich IMO is a major benefit of this type of forum. I have decided to look at the issues with my Excel as learning tools and rather than get frustrated have fun with it and isnt that what RVs are supposed to be fun

The title of this topic caught my eye and I wanted to "weigh in" before it went too long...
Here at iRV2 we have a "mission statement" which we all strive to live by.
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content"> Our Mission: "Efficiently support the thoughtful exchange of knowledge, values and experiences among RV enthusiasts" </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
In establishing our manufacturer forums we hoped to provide a location for owners of those particular types of rigs to discuss issues and experiences with their respective rigs, both good and BAD.
I've communicated at one time or another, with the representatives of every manufacturer "represented" here on iRV2 and I can assure you they understand there will be "negative" posts.
Here on iRV2 we allow such posts, with the caveat that we do NOT allow simple "brand bashing" or brand "wars" such as "my brand is better than your stinkin' brand" diatribes.
In the interest of education, we will always allow constructive "comparisons" between brands such as "Brand A has this where Brand B has something else".
Although rather lengthy, I wanted to make certain we were all on the same page....
We've envisioned iRV2 as someplace where we're all sitting in chairs around the campfire and sharing our comments...
Thank you all for your continued support of what we feel is the premier source of information for the RV'er....AND the Excel Owner!!

A/C generator issue. Some of you experts know the answer to this. Tried to run the A/C on a 05 35 MKO with my 3000 Honda Gen. The gen said overload when the compressor kicked in. Sounds like it takes more then 23.3 amps to run the A/C. An A/C guy said there is something you can install on the A/C which terminates hard starts of the compressor. Then the 3000 Honda can carry the load but it is still marginal.

Bill,
Don't know why a 30 amp generator won't run your AC. We have two 15K heat pumps amd both of them start with no more that 16 amps then level off to between 11.5 and 12.5 amps while running. The 20 amp side of our 5.5 KVA Onan will run the fwd AC with amps to spare.

I agree with Max1 about the quantity of negative vs. positive comments on the forum. To a prospective buyer, some comments we mention may sway their opinion. But I think it is important to post the negative items for several reasons:
1) Other owners can see if their rig is having the same problems, possibly preventing futher damage.
2) Keeps other owners on the look out for a future problem - before it happens.
3) Alerts potential buyers about the good options and the not so good options, should they decide to order their unit.
4) Alerts Peterson Industries to design issues or weak points; thereby creating room for improvement.
5) Allows owners and prospective owners to see the problems they may encounter that are maybe "typical" for the rv industry or maybe exclusive to the Excels.
I, for one, could find only positive reviews on our unit (this forum was still quite new when we ordered) and this was the deciding factor for buying (ordering) it. But in reality, we have experienced a fair share of warranty items - having the unit back at the dealer after each of our 7 weekend (3-4 day) trips thus far for repair (leaking sewer tank, stuck canopy, leaking shower drain, leaking roof antennae, water heater shutting on and off and then blowing the pop off valve continuously, etc). I realize that this is not indicative of every Excel unit, it would have been nice to know that the unit may have its fair (or sometimes more than fair) share of problems. Not that I would have chosen a different brand (because the good far outweighs the bad (at this point) - in comparision to the "other" brands), but I wouldn't have held our unit to such "perfect" standards. I do think that our unit passed thru the factory at a bad time and the QC was inherently lacking in far too many areas. But in defense of PI, and as so many owners have said, they took care of everything with out any hesitation. They even came down to the Texas Gulf Coast and picked up the unit and took it back to the factory to do the necessary repairs, and then shipped it back to us.)
SO...in conclusion, be prepared to not have a "perfect" unit (haven't met any "perfect" people yet either ); but be assured that Peterson Industries will take care of your unit.

Excellent balanced post M&S. I'm curious what the above quote means ... was there a period of time that folks should watch for in resale units? Was there a problem at the factory when yours was built? Do you know how the problem at the plant was resolved?
Thanks,
Bob

That's what I like about 'rockintom', he's always wearing his rose colored glasses!
Our Excel forum has exceeded all my expectations. The sharing of the positive and negative aspects of our RVs, PI, and related issues makes it an exciting place to visit each day. Have a great day!

We ordered unit 1st week of October 2006 (dealer week); delivered mid December. According to PI, a lot of employees were out with the flu bug and some people were having to do other peoples jobs - something they were not specifically trained in. They were not offering this as an excuse, but rather an explanation as to why we had so many QC items. Also lots of units were in production due to dealer show orders.

Thanks M&S ... this kind of inside info is invaluable to current and prospective owners. I'm pretty sure that the same kind of thing happens in other companies of all sizes; but it also helps explain why some owners seem to have more problems than others.
Is it enough that the service center stands behind the product in cases like this (a very good thing that they do); or do rigs with problems like yours fall under the federal lemon law, and should be repurchased by the factory.
