I pulled down the ceiling cover of the heat pump to clean the foam filter. Along with the cover came this bolt.

Where the heck does this go?

Sorry Bruce. My unit is to old to be classified as a Heat Pump so can't answer it directly.
What model do you have? Can you post a picture of the area it came from. Must be really important....sure they wouln't use a 'gold bolt' just anywhere!

I know I shouldn't do this but..... "The Sky is Falling...the Sky is falling!" (sorry)
...actually Bruce, we do have a "heat pump" system. I can certainly try to see if we see such a piece in ours -if it is the same as yours...

Bruce this is all I could come up with as I don't have the same unit....
Might be a bolt that mounts a small heat strip. You can see it in the photo on the left side.
This side of the airconditioner is the intake side. The duct running in the center is what supplies the air to the front of the unit. You might be able to place your hand on either side of the duct and feel the location of the heater and its mount. There should be no live 120v in that area, but for safety I would pull the breaker for the AC to be sure and be carefull for sharp things you can't see. They should be near the coils if at all. Might use a small mirror to 'see around the corner'.
If not able to reach, can be obtained from the top by taking the cover off and then the forward case.
This photo was provided by Rockin' on a project he was doing...a good photo is a terrible thing to waste...so here is a good use. This is what it might look like in that area. the heater might sit in the slight opening in the center of the coil frame.
Hope something helped,
workhorse

Oh jeez, here we go again.
Thanks Chris and Tom for the advice and pics. Ain't had time to look at this yet. Got an in-law here, and we're in tourist mode. I'll poke around sometime this week.

I finally called PI about this bolt and later sent Ralph B the above pic. He examined a heat pump and said that this bolt is used to secure the bracket holding each of two fans in the heat pump. Since the upper squirrel cage fan [Sorry Squirrel] is sealed off from the interior, he figures it would attach to the interior standard fan. Ralph said that I would need to remove the roof cover and the motor to replace it or even see it.
Since the fan makes no noise at all, he wondered if it was just an extra bolt in there. If it ain't broke.... So I recorded his instructions and requested an exploded view diagram from the company for possible future reference.
Thanks again for your advice.

Wow.. My "Guess" was going to be a motor mounting bolt.
Too big for a heat strip mount, only motors and the, in this case evaporator, would need a bolt that big.

FYI
I wrote to the manufacturer for documentation and received this link for a parts list and exploded view RV Comfort manuals
However, I don't see my model number, so must write to the company again.

Bruce, does this list your unit....?
The parts breakdowns don't give that detail of a look and haven't come across anything that does.
I'm putting my money on a bolt for the heat element I mentioned earlier. After all, I'm always right except for when I'm wrong.

List = almost. My model is 8535B786, just outside the series on the list you furnished.
Do I have a heat strip in my heat pump? When the temp drops, the heat pump generates no heat at all. I turn on my propane furnace.
Me, I'm always right. Except when SKIA says I'm wrong. Then I'm right.
