I just did a search on this and found some info but not exactly what I was looking for. We are going to have to replace the controller we have, it came with our truck as it has been doing some strange things. Now, I have read in this forum about needing a controller that is compatible with the disc brakes on our rig. We have a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 duelly with a 2010 30RSO. Maybe not the brand but what do we need to be looking for in a controller? Thanks

I'm not sure yo need a controller specifically for disk brakes, but rather one that's proportional and adjustable. I use a Tekonsha Prodigy controller in my Ford truck for both trailers with disk and drum Brakes. You can set the controller for the initial and maximum amount of braking pressure at the wheels.

They sell a newer model (Prodigy 2) for trucks with electronic over hydraulic brakes. Here's a link:

For a heavy fiver like an Excel, I strongly recommend a brake controller that utilizes a brake pressure sensor. Controllers that utilize line pressure are far superior to those that depend on gravity. The Maxbrake controller has this feature and is also compatible with most if not all brake actuators that pressurize your disc brakes. Installation was a bit more complex than say a Prodigy but Maxbrake provides kits that are truck specific and it took me about an hour to do.

Not affiliated with Maxbrake - just a happy customer

I have been running a MaxBrake for about a year now and it is even better than the Jordan 2020 it replaced. I do use it with drum brakes, but it brakes the truck and trailer as one unit. No setting changes between city and highway.

Thanks for the suggestions. I think got something ordered and we will get it installed before we move again. It is nice to know there is always somewhere to go to ask these questions.

I bought my trailer used. It has hydraulic operated disc brakes. The previous owner tried using a Prodigy brake controller and said it would not work properly electric to hydraulic. I see that the Prodigy 2 wis designed to work with that application.

The original Prodigy was only meant for electric trailer brakes. The new Prodigy2 is designed for electronic/hydraulic brakes. The Prodigy2 has only been on the market a few months
