As we all know storage and space are a premium when living full time in a rig. When I took delivery of this rig in August of 08, immediately I noticed a knock out panel above the refrigerator.

Well this week I needed to know what was behind that panel and was going to build my Bread Box. And as you can see is the duct work for the refrigerator and some insulation.

A frame was built to box it in along with the oak paneling for the sides and bottom of my Bread Box. You can see a 1/2” trim piece to cover the seams in the corners and at the top.

A 1/2” x 1.5” piece was used for a lip to keep things from falling out. A door might be added later. I got a door for my last rig at Lowes with the hinges installed. At Lowes one can order just one door, I just gave them the measurements and the wood matched perfectly.

I needed electricity in my new Bread Box so instead of wiring a receptacle to it, a hole was knocked out into the neighboring cupboard to plug a power strip from the new cabinet. But of course the factory only installed a one receiver receptacle in the microwave area and the same for the refrigerator, So a three way plug was installed, to get power to two cupboards.

In part of my Bread Box I installed a cell signal amp and a wireless router. On the right is my Terabyte (portable hard drive) and I will use it wireless too.

This proves my Bread Box is for what it is suppose to be with a bag of pretzels.

My new Bread Box will give me more counter space and I gained 11.5”x11.5”x25.25” of storage space.

Nicely done, Woody! I am not sure you would need a cabinet door on it - except to give it a "finished" look.

We have a similar set-up for the electronics part .. and it works great!

Again...great job!

Thanks MM, the nice part was I could bring the coaxial cable for the antenna through the refrigerator roof vent and did not have to drill one hole into my rig to mount and install my Wilson Truckers Antenna to the amp.

This looks like a GREAT addition for the space. I think it shoud be done as part of the normal build whenever possible. Storage space is ALWAYS good.

Woody,

Nice job....good idea. I think on some models that area is a flue for the propane portion of the refer as it vents to the roof.

Hope workhorse doesn't noticed that you failed to miter the corners of the moldings!!! He is a stickler on the details!!! Just kiddin'

Thanks for sharing....

Thanks Rockin for putting the correct word in my mouth. I knew you where going to do that but I do not care about those things with you. You are one of the few engineers I know that can talk on my level and explain it. There is only one other person that I know that when they correct me it doesn't bother me either, so feel privileged, Rockin

Neither do we...actually, read none, since our refrigerator is in a slide. (Besides, we keep our bread IN the refrigerator...we don't go through a loaf quickly enough to keep it from getting moldy without keeping it in the refer.)

We are about the same way, although there is a knockout panel in the top of the pantry that accesses the 6" space above the refrigerator which is surely vent space.

Miterbox Woody....I thought it was a nice job also! It was nice that the panel was already there and needed a little dress up to have a nice useable space.

I'm able to do some of the things I do because of a full workshop of tools and I'm not living in my unit. Even though it seems like I 'LIVE THERE' somtimes.
