Hi again, and greetings from MN. As mentioned in "Intro post" a couple weeks ago, we have our first Excel. I was wondering if any of you have had issues with cabinet doors coming apart at the mitered joints. We had a couple fixed a month ago or so, and this past weekend my wife had the unit and the door under the oven came apart. It has the hickory cabinetry. The dealer said they had seen that problem a few times over the years with other brands but not with Excel - but have not had much experience with the hickory. It looked to me that there was little or no glue in those joints. Are the cabinets and doors built at the factory or do they buy them??? They will obviously take care of it - but still kind of a pain. Certainly hope we don't have more it it happening when wer are in TX this winter -1500 miles from our dealer

Hi Rick,
Wow, kinda surprised at your comments regarding the quality issue on cabinetry on your Winslow. In my opinion, there are a few items that PI pride themselves on. One is the woodworking in the interior of the rig.....Unless they are doing somthing to reduce cost in the Winslow, I believe the woodwork is done in-house. Other things that I believe to be great in Excels are the fiberglass roof, stong insulation, and a strong chassis structure. We'll see what other folks say......

We've had no issues with the build on the cabinetry but its not the hickory. We did/do have the stain issue on the cherry stain, which has apparently now been corrected.
As your dealer mentioned, we did have this occur on our previous SOB fiver, but not the excel. I expect they will get it taken care of for you. Good Luck.

I checked with Vicki (Our parts coordinator) this morning. She said that she saw this issue a few times but certainly not enough to be overly concerned. She said that she did have one coach that she replaced several doors in. This has been awhile back.
We have contacted our door supplier and he has taken all defective doors back and apparantly corrected the problem because Vicki said it has been awhile since she has seen bad doors.
I'm sorry you're having this issue.
Bryan

Thought I'd bring this up from page three to the top and see if any more of these cabinet door issues have popped up. I haven't looked at the forum much this winter -too busy going to jams etc. We have at least three more separating now. plan on stopping by the factory sometime next week. We couldn't make a service appointment as we had no idea when we would be going home, but want to stop in, maybe do the tour, and get their thoughts on this and a couple other issues. I see there have been other folks who have had the switch problem with the H&H rear stabilizers. Both of mine have failed -Vicky sent me a switch to Rockport TX and I got it fixed yesterday morning. After the first time I added a drag link socket to my tools for doing it manually if need be. And I'm gonna have a spare switch - as that motor reversing switch is not easy to find.

I have had two doors with problems. Clean the joints, glue them, clamp them, wipe the glue that seeps out with a damp cloth and give it a couple of hours. Should be ok.

Thought I might bring this cabinet door topic to the top again and see if anyone else is having this issue. We've had a couple fixed, six replaced in May, and four more scheduled to be replaced on Aug 10. Getting more than a little bit tired of this

Sorry you are having this problem. If these are seperating at the glued joint then it is most likely bad glue. Probably old glue. Or the panel on the door is swelling forcing the joint apart (that requires some milling).
The manufactuer is making good on repairs so you should be good; but for the road just carry some good fresh glue (I suggest Titebond III). It is water proof and has a fairly long open time so you can work with it while lining things up. A couple of say 18'/24" bar clamps (depending on width or length of cabinet doors) that pull the joint together---do not need a lot of pressure just good and tight. Over night set and you will never have to worry about that joint again. Keep a damp rag handy to wipe off excess glue---it cleans with water.
