carpeted curbs around shower

I'm considering installing Allure Ultra in my 2007 30RSO in place th existing flooring. Around the shower area there is like a 5" carpeted curb. I'd like tp remove this, but not sure why its there, any issues with removing it. What has anyone else done in a similar case?

Typically the carpeted curb conceals plumbing and/or
electrical runs.

How brave are you? I didn't have a carpeted curb around the shower, but I did in front of the bedroom closet. I was replacing the carpet with those interlocking planks, and couldn't come up with a way to box in a curb with the product so I left the carpet. If that's not an option, rip the carpet out and see what you're working with. There is a way to make an outside corner look ok by removing the back part of the interlocking joint and pressing the finished edges together. There is also a stair nose trim piece that might look good to finish the outside edge. Good luck. - John

I've got a good wood shop and plenty of cherry lumber, plan on using their "light cherry" colored product. So I should be able to create any trim I want. Just trying to pick some brains as to what may be hidden that I wish I know before. Not that I've ever been there before.....

Not all showers fit to the floor as nicely as we wished they would. Sometimes we would make that carpeted bumper to go around the shower. It was cosmetic only.

If you feel around through the nap of the carpet you should find the heads of some washerhead screws where we would have screwed it into the side of the shower, probably to hide a gap on the floor.

It's perfectly fine to remove the screws and take it off but you are correct, you will probably want to use it, or something else like it to re-trim around the base of the shower after you install your floor.

Bryan

That's exactly the information I needed to know. Thanks for the info.
