I'm looking for an alternative to lead weights to balance all those Alcoa wheels on the Excel and the TV - hate to think about the corrosion resulting from dissimilar metals.
Does anyone have any experience with Centramatic Balancers? http://www.centramatic.com/index.html
I've seen ads and a website on another system which you pour into the tire through the valve stem. Maybe someone can comment on this one or another solution to the balancing problem.
Thanks in advance.

Jim,
I know you called for actual experience but no one answered so.......
I have Centramatic Balancers on my list to get. I have seen a reduction in tire temps from nothing to using lead weights and those who use Centramatics tell me there are a few more degrees reduction with using them. Additionally, I don't have to worry about having the corrosion because of different metals (lead and aluminum) nor having one of the lead weights fall off.
Here is some discussion on the Escapees board about the powder. This user (Emery) found it not acceptable. Others use the beads with varying results.

Hope this helps.

But wouldn't you have dissimilar metals berween the wheels and the Centramtics? They are going to be behind the wheel in direct contact with the backside of the wheel.

Butch,
As stated, I don't have these and have not talked to the company but from the website, it appears that they come in stainless steel, aluminum or galvanized steel making it possible to match your rims.

Pick up type dually's all ready have dis-similar metals in use. (steel wheels inside, aluminium outside) Even with the washer/insulator Ford uses, I will have to beat off my outer rim if I get a flat (or install Centramatics)

Would someone be so kind and inform the "uninformed" as to what exactely is a "centramatic Balancer?" A neophyte student who knows, "all I know is what I do not know."
Thanks, Maverik

A bunch of ball bearings free flowing in a track inside a pancake looking disk that fits over the lug studs on your wheel between the hub and the tire. The ball bearings swing out to the opposite side away from the area causing the "bounce" in the tire and thus balance it. For the technical explanation see...
http://www.centramatic.com/
They even have a video demo.
